Mithras
Banded Mongoose
It began as a project back in 2008, Traveller pushed into working for a non-jump, non-FTL, non-contra-grav, solar system-only setting. I called it STL back then, but now refer to it as Orbital.
A Cold War stalemate and interplanetary gold rush for helium-3 powers the colonization efforts, and provides the back-drop for the game. Ships are propelled by nuclear thermal rockets; powerplants are fission reactors and gravity is created by spin capsules or rotating rings.
What do characters do? You can play 'Traveller characters' as writ, but the setting is more realistic, more 'modern' and lends itself to the adventures of hardy, independent types, freelance miners, science teams, salvage crews and freighter crews, hauling insane cargoes insane distances to clients who seem always to keep some part of the job a secret. In other words, they are what Traveller does best: normal joes, going about their jobs. But their day jobs are bloody tough!
------------------------------------------------------
As the main part of this book (sans the world write-ups) begins to come to a first draft completion, I'm interested in finding any Traveller players who would be willing to look at material again, look for those hidden discrepancies or contradictions with other Mongoose books, and maybe run some aspects through a game or two....
Please PM me with your email address if interested! The subject line is Orbital!
