[Zozer Games] Solar System Traveller - playtest call

Mithras

Banded Mongoose
It began as a project back in 2008, Traveller pushed into working for a non-jump, non-FTL, non-contra-grav, solar system-only setting. I called it STL back then, but now refer to it as Orbital.

A Cold War stalemate and interplanetary gold rush for helium-3 powers the colonization efforts, and provides the back-drop for the game. Ships are propelled by nuclear thermal rockets; powerplants are fission reactors and gravity is created by spin capsules or rotating rings.

What do characters do? You can play 'Traveller characters' as writ, but the setting is more realistic, more 'modern' and lends itself to the adventures of hardy, independent types, freelance miners, science teams, salvage crews and freighter crews, hauling insane cargoes insane distances to clients who seem always to keep some part of the job a secret. In other words, they are what Traveller does best: normal joes, going about their jobs. But their day jobs are bloody tough!

------------------------------------------------------

As the main part of this book (sans the world write-ups) begins to come to a first draft completion, I'm interested in finding any Traveller players who would be willing to look at material again, look for those hidden discrepancies or contradictions with other Mongoose books, and maybe run some aspects through a game or two....

Please PM me with your email address if interested! The subject line is Orbital!

Ian Stead (Middenface) has composed and created the image for Orbital's draft cover. It should set the scene for the setting quite well.

Now this is the kind of game background that I feel everyone would like and be much more populare to a wider selection of folks. I look forward to this product coming out!

There's certainly a lot of things in there of general use; realistic explanations of exposure to vacuum, rules for explosive decompression, slow decompression, there are pretty comprehensive descriptions of TL 8 and 9 vacc suits, and what it's like to spend time in them, along with customisable options. Other hardware includes a variety of rovers built using the Vehicle Supplement useable on large moons, Titan, Mercury etc.

The book dovetails with Comstar Avenger's Archaic Smallcraft book which provides rules for TL 7 craft and space stations. Small craft in Orbital are built with that rule book and the 10 ton modules used to build stations in that book continue in Orbital to be the solar system mainstay, acting a lot like modern day shipping containers.

This is a great concept. I'll be interested as this develops.
For my group, I am currently fleshing out details for a Chthonian Stars campaign.
What you are producing would likely be very useful, even though not geared specifically to Sci-Fi horror.
Of special interest to me are bases on the moons and asteroids of our solar system

I'm glad you're finally going ahead with this, Mithras! I downloaded your original CT version way back and loved it.
