Would you like to botch that spell?

While figuring out how to convert Iron Kingdoms to Runequest, I thought about a system whereby a spellcaster with a low POW rating might actually botch a spell. Perhaps any caster whose POW is less than or equal to 10 + Spell Magnitude would have to roll on a botch table if he failed to cast that spell.

For Iron Kingdoms, I'd also plan to implement the D&D rule that to cast a spell requires a POW of 10 + the spell Magnitude, so botching a spell might only happen if a character has exactly the minimum POW needed to cast the spell.

(The reason for implementing the D&D limit has to do with setting-specific fluff about the "Gift" of magic, and a setting condition that forbids certain races from casting arcane spells -- in Runequest, they'd simply not have enough POW.)

Has anybody created rules for botching spells? Thoughts?
