Neo
Mongoose
After being inspired to point out some games I'd like to see put into RPG form after reading Mage's top ten wargame wants. And after not being able to find the individual threads relating to these particular games anymore I figured i'd repost a list of my own.
(please note these are RPG wants, not wargames though).
Masters of the Universe
Lets face it Eternia is ripe for RPG treatment, masses of species, factions, abilities, memorable villains etc.. its just plain begging for RPG'age. I think a nice chunky Players Book, Eternian World Guide, Gm's Guide to Eternia, an Eternian Bestiary and some adventures would be all that is needed to make a lot of folks happy.
X-Com
Perhaps one of the most well remembered Computer Games of my generation of gamers. It was a bookmark in computer gaming development for certain.. but its idea would lend well to an RPG. Globally sponsored organisation sending party sized teams to assess, prevent, apprehend, thwart and even eliminate numerous alien threats, preying on mankind secretly and openly in varying scales. Capturing thier tech learning from it and utilising it while our techs develop our own new technologies from these alien techs. I think this game would work best with a developing timeline like Battletech has. Starts off with the initial book and sectiods are abducting people, harvesting cattle etc...etc... then the next sourcebook advances the time line some introducing some new aliens, while presenting the world changes, advances in Earth tech based on the sectiod menace.. and so on.. continuing in a similar vein advancing the games timeline 5 or 10 years each time.
Fallout
Another benchmark CRPG game, with a third installment finally being a reality from BEthesda this time. I know another company is or has made a Fallout RPG but I can remember seeing some previews and not being impressed, it looked and read amateurish and inconsistent.
This said however a decent RPG treatment for this setting would be pure joy for me, the world of fallout is intriguing, sometimes dark, sometimes humorous, it has memorable factions varying tech levels, and is and remaisn for me my ideal Post Apocalyptic setting.
Again a Vault Dwellers Survival Guide (players Book), Vault Archives (Gms book) and a Survivors Guide to the Surface (world and creature book) along with a few adventures would be all that is needed for this to get going (though some faction books like The Enclave, Brotherhood of Steel etc... would be cool too).
ZOIDS
It has to be said im a big fan of giant robot games, I loved (Classic) Battletech (and still do), Armageddon 2089, Mekton, robotech, Heavy Gears...you name them i own and have played and run them... but the Zoids setting as yet has remained untapped, which quite frankly mytifies me as of all those other settings Zoids has remained the most character driven and thus ideally suited to RPG treatment (imo) of all of them and the big robots/mechs or in this case zoids are interesting, alive (sort of), evolving and modifiable, there are numerous comics, anime, toy lines, computer and console games to draw from for source. Some pretty cool factions, differing time periods with slightly different variations on zoid combatting. Hasbro and therefore WotC owns the rights to Zoids as far as i know via ther toy lines and dvd's though why they havent given this ripe setting the rpg treatment is beyond me.
Final Fantasy
Not many folks dont like these games, thier setting etc.. perhaps a little too associatable with a multitude of other existing fantasy RPG's in a number of ways, but it would still be nice to have an official and definitive FF RPG covering all incarnations (including my own favourite FFVII).
Those are the ones at the top of my list atm... more will no doubt spring to mind later.
