Arrrgh... I was afraid someone would say that... What did you use to file them?

What about gluing turf stuff to the bases? Do you need to use superglue like that say? Any tips on that?

I used a fine grit sandpaper. It really isn't all that much more work. As for flocking the sides, sure you could do that. I prefer the painted look myself but that's just me.

No, I mean just gluing regular sand/flock to the tops of the bases. Is superglue really required like the directions say?

Don't superglue flock to bases..... the flock will absorb the glue really quickly and goes hard and can discolour. PVA and a good spray of varnish afterwards.
Also, superglue is too expensive to use that way and difficult to control (any brush you use is ruined) and if you get any on the model you'll wreck it. Unlike PVA that you can rub off while tacky.
