Mongoose
So I've had a chance to try out the magnetic basing from GF9 on some other figures, and I must say, I have been convinced!

Like terrain basing is one of those things that gamers just cvan't seem to be convinced to pay money for. Sure we'll shell out four to twelve bucks bucks for a single model, but when it comes to spending twenty-five cents per figure to have an army that is laughably easy to store and trasnport, i say the NAY! We just sort of lock up and have an aneurysm when it comes to pony-ing up that fat twelve bucks for 25 bases.

So my predicament is this. I have 32 half-assembled, MI - torso and legs glued to a base. I used the super-special-awesome glue meant for gluing ABS plastic together. You CAN break the models off their base, it just takes considerable force, and takes a thin slice of the base with it. Since the bases from MP aren't anything special, I could, in theory, rebase everything.

But wait! There's more!

I have 32 more fully assembled models, and most of them have sand glue to the base. I can't imagine it would be a problem, but...

So my question is, is buying enough magnetic bases and breaking off all the models from their base and rebasing them on magnetics the best use of my time and money? In addition I have a few more, along with some chars, but those should be a problem, as they haven't been glued down yet.

Isn't that what I already said without the skull-popping math?

You call that skull-popping? God and I was sure that my country's education is not too good  .

And magnetic tape is weaker becouse it's made from different matirials

All this is good, but I don't really need them to be super-powerful, and the GF9 is cheaper than the ND magnets. Also, they keep the beveled edge of normal bases, which is what I like.

Anyone have any pics of painted models with GF9 bases, I want to see if the thing "mold line" running round the circumference of the base is visible when painted.

Chris- I used them on my WFB Wood Elf army and to get rid of the line you have to carefully sand the edges. Even then the line is still visible if you look close enough.

Kenrick- My apologies. That is why I shouldn't drink and type.

Arrrgh... I was afraid someone would say that... What did you use to file them?

What about gluing turf stuff to the bases? Do you need to use superglue like that say? Any tips on that?

I used a fine grit sandpaper. It really isn't all that much more work. As for flocking the sides, sure you could do that. I prefer the painted look myself but that's just me.

the neo magnets are a lot less work as you get to keep the existing bases, also, they are a whole lot stronger. It's the best way. Enough neo magnets under a model will stick a CHAS to the fridge.
If you were starting from scratch then the GF9 ones are good, but with finished figs, just glue the neo magnets underneath.

I bought my magnets fromt his place. You can use the small ones with no problem I got the small ones and each is able to hold 1/2 lbs (atleast what I was told) but one will hold plastic figs great with 2 on metal(large metal like old GW terms) is over kill.

No, I mean just gluing regular sand/flock to the tops of the bases. Is superglue really required like the directions say?
