Hmm...have you looked at the 2300ad books? I'm not sure how Mongoose has adapted them, but might be worth a look. The accessible universe was much smaller (30 or so systems if I remember correctly), politics and war between the nations is still very much going on (not the all encompassing government of the Imperium), and it used stutterwarp which was a FTL drive in real space which would isn't much different than hyperspace mechanic-wise. It was a lot more hard science than traveller too though...which might not be a bad thing!

The whole idea came about when I thought of the Star Wars Stormtroopers. The Germans had the first Stromtroopers, and Star Wars stole the idea from them, so I decided to create a setting which more closely resembled World War II while retaining some Star Wars elements. I think I'll have some psionics in this setting as well, and a plasma sword (Light sabre), requires the precognition talent in order to deflect laser bolt with it, it also makes the person aware of his surroundings without using his physical senses, and at the GM's discretion, provides some knowledge of future events, but of course always in motion is the future! In this setting, Hitler replaces Palpatine, There are Star Destroyers ad Star Carriers plus various kinds of fighter spacecraft, and light starships, instead of there being a Galactic Empire, we have several empires fighting for galactic conquest or simply for survival. The main Empires are The British Empire, The Third Reich, The Japanese Empire, The Soviet Union, The and United States.

The Storm Troopers in this setting are the equivalent to the Marine Service, they are a spacegoing army that specializes in boarding actions, and invasions of planets. The Army simply holds planets after the Stormtroopers have taken them.

Dear Tom,

Wow ! Very impressive work so far, and a fascinating premise. My campaign setting is quite similar, also taking in other Dieselpunk influences such as Rocketship Empires, Dust, AE-WWII, Gear Krieg, 1946, etc.

Please fill us in on how your campaign galaxy came about.

Looking forward to seeing further developments !

Cheers,

Gary

Actually it is the opposite of Dieselpunk, the technology is standard Traveller with the exception of a hyperdrive replacing the Jump Drive, the Setting is World War II, but throw across an interstellar milieu. The Star Wars movies were sort of like that, they had their "Space Nazis", but I was thinking of having my Space Nazis to be more like the historical Nazis. A parallel example in the fantasy World is a novel called Operation Chaos by Poul Anderson, it is set in the modern World, actually a version of World War II, but with magic replacing the technology of that era, in this case it is a higher tech level replacing the World War II tech in this setting.

Hi Tom,

Any further developments with your World War II Galaxy setting ?

Thanks !

I haven't worked on it in a while. Basically its a pseudo-Star Wars campaign, with Hitler replacing Emperor Palpatine. I did the work on another computer, which is now broken, but I posted everything here. I was hoping to make a collaborative project out of it. As you can see the map is complete, I just need to stat the worlds.

I Think I would like to work on vehicles this time around, rolling up random worlds gets a little monotonous. Lets start with the various aircraft, which we will turn into spacecraft.

The aircraft located at the Olympic Flight Museum in Olympia, Washington, which carries the serial number 44-13926 and is marked as airworthy, is a recreation of the original.

Here are some preliminary tonnages of single seat space fighters:
Fock-Wulf Fw 190: 30.28 tons

Good, here is a web site, that I find helpful in making the from calculation for each ship.
http://www.airproducts.com/products/Gases/gas-facts/conversion-formulas/weight-and-volume-equivalents/hydrogen.aspx
What you do is multiply the height by the length by the width to get a volume in cubic feet (cf) and enter that amount in the cf box for hydrogen and look at the box for kg and divide by 1000, and that is the dton volume for the equivalent space fighter.

Here is a list of world war Ii aircraft
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aircraft_of_World_War_II

here is the website to find the specification for each aircraft.
https://science.howstuffworks.com/focke-wulf-fw-1901.htm

For instance the specs for the focke-wulf-fw190 is

Focke Wulf Fw 190 Specifications
Wingspan: 34 ft. 5-1/2 in.
Length: 29 ft. 4-1/4 in.
Height: 12 ft. 11-1/2 in.
Empty Weight: 7,652 lbs
Gross Weight: 10,724 lbs
Top Speed: 408 mph
Service Ceiling: 33,800 ft.
Range: 644 miles
Engine/Horsepower: One BMW 801D-2s/1700
Crew: 1
Armament: Two 13-mm MG-131 machine guns in fuselage; two 20-mm MG 151-20E cannons in wing roots and two more in the outer wing panels

multiply wingspan by length by height to get cf.
Go here to get cf converted to kg and divide by 1000 to get hull tonnage.
https://science.howstuffworks.com/focke-wulf-fw-1901.htm
You can substitute the name of the wwii aircraft your working on for "focke-wulf-fw-1901.htm" on the website address.
I am using the highguard rules to create ship statistics.

Here is my list so far
Fock-Wulf Fw 190: 30.28 tons
Henkel He 112: 26.7 tons
North American P-51 Mustang: 38 tons
Mitsubishi A6M Rei-sen (Zero): 24.8 tons
Spitfire LF Mke: 30.5 tons
Super Marine Seafire XV: 34.3 tons
Curtis P-40 Warhawk: 36.6 tons
LaGG-3 series66: 17.5 tons

I just thought I'd mention. I think I will use standard traveller rules for these fighters and other aircraft/spacecraft, so they can be used in any standard traveller campaign. I will use their capabilities and roles in World war II however as a guideline for the capabilities in a standard traveller campaign. I will substitute missile racks for drop bombs, and pulse and beam lasers for machine guns and cannons.

So this means ground vehicles, both soft and armored fighting vehicles, will be grav equivalents and energy equivalent weapons? Panzers and Shermans mounting laser cannons and autocannons? Space capable fighters launched from orbiting carriers for air superiority and ground support followed by troop transport small craft?

The Battle of Britain should be interesting.

Pretty much. I'm thinking of using Jump drives and making it compatible with the third Imperium campaign, see what happens if the whole galaxy replaces one of the rift sectors in charted space. Maybe some weird ancient artifact gets activated and replaces the Reft sector with World War II galaxy, forming a bridge, this would be diagonal to the Spinward Marches. it is 33 hexes across and about 30 hexes down, so about 9 Charted space subsectors approximately.
