The only standard thing we tend to change is not officially changed, which is we don't play with JPB... a couple of early examples led us to believe it just wasn't fun. Otherwise 'as written', but I know we avoid a lot of what we think of as problematic builds (the 40 ship fleets, etc.) except for playtest style games.

Play pretty much as is, although we use a different campaign system (plays a lot like twilight imperium using ACTA to resolve battles). The main difference to the actual battles is that we have our ships start on table or jump in depending on if they jumped or traveled through realspace on the strategic map.

Just thought I'd echo what a previous poster said, I think the rules system is excellent, most of the gripes (and they're mainly minor ones now) when "fixed" seem to piss off as many people as they did unfixed. I think the rules are great, this is the best, most balanced game ever (I know I'm a suck).

Stealth and beams never bothered me, and fighters always seemed to have half the people complaining they were useless and the other half saying they were too powerful. Don't know what to make of that

As is. We experiment frequently but games are played as-is. Unless of course we've had too much to drink, are too tired, or over dose on dumb ass pills. ;)

House rules are great for campaigns, lousy for when you play outside of your group or tournements.
