Battle - hmm ok not great but a reasonable selection

Don't forget it includes variants, so there is the G'Quan, Avioki, and Omega, Command Omega, Pulse Omega, Batrado, Kaliva, G'Tal, G'Quonth and G'Lan.

About the only thing the AoL is missing is a carrier.
Hmmm, I didn't know about the variants either... are we sure as this means they have about 60 ships to choose from rather than 30?

Presently the rules say ( I missed it as well)

When choosing ships for an Army of Light fleet, the following rules must be obeyed.

• You may only choose ships (and their variants) from the following list;

it also does not seem to mention ISD - does this mean you can use both versions of the Nova and all versions of the Hyperion? Now there's a nasty selection of ships right there in the Hyperion Line
:)

I know you know this but the Command Omega and the G'Quonth are both War PL.

And the Batrado is raid. :) But the variants does also bring in the Xaak at battle level.

So the AoL ship list looks something like this:

Fighters: Frazis, Nial, Flyer, Aurora, Thunderbolt, (and possibly Sky Serpent).
Patrol: Sunhawk, Eyehawk, Guardhawk
Skirmish: Olympus, Hyperion Assault, Sataaka, Jumphawk, Strikehawk, Darkhawk, Solarhawk, Xixx, Xorr, Xirr.
Raid: Nova, Hyperion, T'Loth, T'Rann, pak Halik, Xill, Bimith, Batrado, White Star, White Star II
Battle: G'Quan, Avioki, Kaliva, G'Lan, G'Tal, Xaak, Omega, Pulse Omega
War: Sharlin, Sharoos, Sharkaan, G'Quanth, Command Omega

It has a patrol level scout, a skirmish level command ship, bombardment ships, dogfighters, bombers, escorts, assault ships, fast agile ships, big slow tough ships, precise weapons, triple damage beams...

Other than the lack of fleet carrier, I'm not seeing a lot of downside. :)

[edited to add White Stars  ]

The 2261 restriction has disappered in the current iteration.

The variants does bring in the Strkehawk, we do need to add the Sky Serpent though.

We should probably specifiy EA Thrid Age.

It stands at 36 ships plus fighters.

Army of Light as it's laid out is crap... how do we represent the drazi/narn alliance... or the abbai/brakiri references...

Ripple

how do you do a drazi/narn alliance now? dont think its in the rules so its by opponents permission.
you can do any sort of alliance with opponents permission. we had a centauri/abbai one take on the EA before, just used the lowest init.

Current Iteration? Is there something other than 1.0?

The rules I have show EA-Dawn of the Third Age as the fleet available for Army of Light. As it stands, the two lists are redundant. Get rid of the first list and put what clarifications need to be made (Earth Alliance (Dawn of the Third Age only)) into the second list. The first list makes it seem like I can get an Artemis, the second is clear that I cannot. The first does NOT list the Centauri, the second lists Centauri ships.

That is the current iteration. Previous iterations are ones that we playtesters got to see.

You are correct, the list of fleet lists does say DotFA. And yes two lists is redundant.

This is why mongoose needs more than just 3 playtesters for one. 3 opinions for a game of this magnitude needs a bit more of an opinion collection, and it needs to have varying levels of people with experience at gaming one and I think pople who actually have experience in feet type tactics to say well thats notreally the way it would happen. You get a little more leeway here with ACTA casue its SCI-Fi but its till helps. And yes i can derail the thread because its my thread to begin with. Ohh and for all you centauri out there, Anyone wearing purple will be emined on site and destroyed with the all the gusto i can with my, still as yet Undefeated against the centauri Narn. This has been a public service announcement from the Ka Ri

The Fanheads would never get close enough. ask any of my centauri opponents what happens when they challenge my Narn. They are destroyed. Utterly, totally and completely. The centauri have been weighed, they have been measured, and the have been found wanting.

hmm interesting. shame you're in the US. and I dont even use demos, i use proper vorchans. last time there wasnt a liati (havent got any of the 5 i won constructed yet) either just my dependable dargans.

great quote from a great film :)

Be very interested to see some battle reports as a Centari player I must admit I am always happy to see a Narn fleet to oppose me (as opposed to a Minbari one).

What sort of levels do you usually play at, do you allow hyperspace and / or terrain and do you play scenarios or "first one to die loses"

Long live the Republic :D

I will admit that my game knowledge might not be what others is, so I hope my comments represent how I feel the game should play out from a lore and fluff sense. Hopefully that input, when combined with the more beardy game heavy types, can be combined into a good chunk of useful input.

Which is why we opened up the rules for you guys to see.

Which was a very good idea. Even besides having dozens more eyes looking at the rules, you get LESS experianced players looking at them. This means that things a more experianced player will assume, take for granted or understand that might be unclear to an inexperianced player could get clarification and avoid problems after it is already in print
