Cosmic Mongoose
so then, round one of our new campaign and the dirty Brakiri decide to intercept my taking of the ship graveyard, despite their being 5 unclaimed locatiobs. Not to afraid, I turn up, i whack in my plus 3 modifier...as do the Brakiri, and we ended up with a 6 battlepoint Anhialation.

long story short really, generally being knocked around but still fully functional, the mothership is looking good, it has most of it's launched ship out and about, a very battered, but still working (just about) strikecruiser is still flying around, and the Brakiri have lost a Corumai, a Kaliva, a Haltona, and their second Kaliva and Haltona look poorly. . when I criple the Kaliva. . 6 inches in front of, and facing, the mothership. next turn he decides to Ram. . needing a 6 to pull it off, he rolls a 6. . . doing 87 damage, with a multitide of crits, the mothership is left with one damage. . . with a lot of crits to come. we decide not to even bother rolling the crits and let the thing blow up. . . Ramming is quite definately gross. I had already watched a Corumai ram a strike cruiser.. ramming twice in one game?!. And with my Amu gone, I am at half strength, mind you the Brakiiri is in similar situation. but Boom? Boom doesn't describe it, Kalivas most certainly should not ram motherships!!!
as it was, we ran out of time and the Drakh clinced it by 1, yes 1 victory point after shooting a Riva!!
Nomad has some pics, but I dunno if he is going to post them.

dang rammed twice? that sucks... although at least you clinched the victory.... still would love to hear a more in depth battle report at some point.

hmm, seems the forum went crazy, can a mod delete my duplicates.

you should be able to go into the threads and 'edit' the posts. there should be a 'delete thread' if no one has replied on the thread yet

Ramming is definitely gross, especially when big ships do it. But with Drazi it is more fun; you get to do Klingon voices and everything ;)

I will do one in more depth when I get chance. maybe with Nomads pics too :-)

In all my time playing ACTA, I have not played a game where a succesful ram was carried out.

A Kaliva ramming a mothership sounds awesome.

I don't remember what ship it was but it was Drazi, I had naff all left on my fighter carrier (psi corps) and they where all 2" apart so I rammed into one of his ships. Blowing it up and damaging the 2 nearby so that a Thentus could finish off the battered ships.

P.S. Rawwar was utterly gutted because he wanted to ram something and has yet to pull it off.

I have successfully rammed a good few times with Drazi. I've had a Sunhawk sticking out the side of Reaverman's Bin'Tak, and Ben's Prefect had a Strikehawk in the face. :)

Early in the campaign you say? My guess is both of you are done for if anyone else still has good strength...

umm, everyone has good strength, no one else has had a fight, and I have lost an arm ship and a battleship, so half my fleet roster, and he has lost a war ship, 2 battleships, and a raid ship, so half his roster.

we also now know how this ship graveyard keeps getting biger and bigger... and the brakiri has already stated he will be trying to attack it again next turn!! uh oh!

Hence my thinking of the fail your Skindancing check tactic.

LBH

Which would be nice if the forthcoming update book removes this "tactic" :)

Yes it would, it's the most ridiculous, unrealistic, stupid case of the letter of the rules defeating the spirit, ever.

Skin dancing is supposed to be a highly practiced skillful art, used to cunningly outmanouver your foes. Not "hey my weapons are broken, today is a good day to die!"

Well we were looking at the Fleet List the other day & Skavendan let out a woop along the lines of woo hoo Minbari can Skin Dance. Quickly followed by for f   k's sake they can only do it with fighters. What don't the ISA get without double cheeese??

I had a similar rant about Narn inventing Energy Mines but everyone elses being more versatile/better.

But am I bitter? Damn right I am I'm Narn.

totally agree :D

Really ? Why? :?

What happens when you attempt to skin dance a ship that has not moved yet - and what happens when it moves?

Why can a White Star skindance a Blue Star or other wierdness?

Should it not be easier to skin dance a lumbering or imobile ship than a agile ship?

Why should it be an easier ramiing technique?

:)

Same here, I've even managed to fail the ramming test when I've been trying to ram a lumbering ship (bin tak) with a agile ship (vorchan) :? It just seems that the dice gods don't want me to crash my ships.

Frankly I wouldnt mind seeing the skindancing rule just plain removed. Its just not needed really on the scale ACTA is modelled and is frankly open to abuse.
