Whats up with the Hermes?

Well I have to admit that I kinda liked the Fins myself, however my recent additions came IN blister SANS FINS. I am not TOO broken up about it, in fact I would have most likely used at least one of their fin sets for some kind of kit bashing, since I am going all out and actually painting the things! I noticed that the order form and description does in fact mention them, but mine did come without em, and the package was not damaged, oh well.

I got no fins with mine, they look a tad odd without them, but you get sused to them

I'm always dismayed that Mongoose uses inaccurate models for publication. The Sharlin is wrong, the Hermes without fins is another example, as is the White Star Gunship missing it's entire undercarriage. WTF? Isn't there a figure painter/builder on the Mongoose staff? :?:

Yeah, the quality of Mongoose's paint jobs seems to be sadly lacking too. I'm no Wayne Rooney of Model Painters myself, but a lot of Mongoose's are just sad. There are some exceptions which are excellent, but a lot of them are just plain bad.

I think I should stick up for the painter guy on Mongoose' staff... If he is the same one that paints all of their Judge Dredd stuff and a few of the really well painted B5 stuff then he is down right one of the best painters in the UK easily.

However I think that more often than not anyone on the staff team will muck in when things need to get painted which is when we see the huge disparity in the paintwork.

These last few releases have all been painted to a very basic level which is neat but nothing special. I would say that the number of miniatures released this month demanded that they only be given the most basic or paint schemes which is a shame as I know the dude can do so much more.

I also think their painter chap (Adrian?) also sculpts many of the new B5 ships that are not done with CAD.

I'll have a root through the mongoose site for some of his best work (IMHO) and post it when I get home.

Some of the stunning MGP paint jobs...

I will admit that the there is not much in the B5 range that is to the standard of that Whitestar and the Dredd/SST models but there is certainly someone at Mongoose that has super skills with a brush...

Well thanks for the kind words Court Jester :). A few words of endorsement from someone who seriously knows their way around a paint brush themselves is worth a thousand from those that don't to me ;). You also pulled out a couple of models of which I am quite proud of too, impeccable taste LOL, I wonder how many people here can paint in several different styles if they choose?

Yes if I had the time I would paint everything to the best standard I possibly could, but I don't, so I can't ;).

A lot of the older B5 stuff was painted long before I started here and to be honest I just fit newer stuff in with existing ranges for continuity and time.

For those of you that liked the new Gaim ships and other newer one's in our range I sculpted some of them, my personal faves being the new Olympus, Shadowcloak, the Gaim Stuteeka and Shruuta Queen ships...

If anyone was interested in my personal work before I worked for Mongoose and what I am capable of with a little brush, check out the website I used when freelancing years ago www.chaos-child.co.uk The best stuff is in the Historical and Rackham sections of the gallery ;)

There's some very very nice stuff in your gallery. The Rackhams minis work very well with your matallics style following the NNM principles. It would be nice to see some more B5 stuff done to a similar standard.

Does it bother you that in continuing schemes that were started before you arrived at MGP you are not showcasing either your talents or the models to their best? (serious question, not meant as a jibe)
