What will happen to the original SST

Mongoose
Hi there.

I received the SST Evo quick start rules and I must say, I am very disappointed. These are the entire BF:Evo quick start rules.
The whole game lost a massive amount of detail with these rules(I also received the stat cards).
I love to play the original SST because it uses a detailed AND fast mass combat system. If the SST:Evo rulebook will also just be a BF:evo Rulebook with a SST layout, then I don't see any reason to start playing.

Just one question: Will the original SST still be available?(the minis, the rules, and so on)?
I just ask, because I won't let me being forced to play SST:Evo. I want to play a detailed mass combat scifi wargame with good and fast rules. In the case of Evo, it lacks the details.

kind of hoping the old figures will be available as I like customising them.
as for the rules, not sure what to make of them.
Am used to the old rules and liked the game style and depth, so will have to wait and see what the rule book has in it, as , as I understand it these are only the brief / quick play rules?
please correct me if i am wrong

EVO will replace the old SST.

The detail will come in the advanced rulebook.

The rulesheet comes with each box of toys, so folks can play straight out of the box. It has to be brief to fit.

What's also nice is that the Evo rules can be seen as some kind of generic rules set.
Yoy can easily adapt or add other things you like and work it out with as much details as you want.

And I do believe you're not the only one who favours SST V1.
So keep on playing any version you like, as long as you've got players to play with that go along.

Like what was said before, they are quickstart rules. They will be expanded on, and the advanced rules will be different to the advacned evo rules for bfe and the quickstart.

As for minis, basically one type will keep being made indfinitly, and the others will be around until the massive stock pile runs out, I cannot remmber which was which, metal or plastic.

As for the rules, I don't think volume. 1 will ever go away.
EDIT:
Mongoose have their own printing facility so that is why I think the core rules will never disappear
And VOl. 1 will still be supporeted. We were promised that all new units released will get the vol. one treatment on cards available on the site or S&P as they are released.

Yes, that's what you can Do with every dead system. But dead systems won't get new players. The problem will be:
-SST V1 won't get supported in S&P
-No new rules/campaigns/(metal) miniatures
-No official tournaments possible
-No rules for the new minis(Forth for example)
-new minis just plastik/preassembled/prepainted

Sure I will stay with SST V1 because of the great Rules(out of ammo, BIG Explosions, Plasma Bug with 72" range,......,.........,.....,.......,...............), but if there won't be any support in the future, I will stop playing sometime. I don't think I will switch to Evo. I own the BF:Evo rulebook, when SST:Evo will also become that "detailed", then there is no need to buy that book or stay with the new system.
That would be the point when I will think of switching entirely to another system. I also own the AT-43 Rulebook, and compared to Evo, it offers a lot more options within its rules.

Andy Chambers really created a cult-system for a cult-setting, why downgrade this great game?
Why don't revise the SST V1 rules and call it "Advanced SST"?

w40k 2nd ed is totally unsupported for 14 years now, and there are still many people playing it. Therefore it's safe to say SST v1 won't just go "out of usage".

Of course you can. Battlefleet Gothic has been almost dead when I started - no support (has gotten a bit better but not much), no players - hell, most people even didn't know that game existed.
But convincing people to play it isn't that hard. Even if the system is 'officially' dead. It doesn't matter as long as you and your group are playing.

There are plenty of rules and SST is a system you can scratchbuild rules for in a really easy way (so did I with our automatic defense guns as the S&P rules don't make that much sense).

Besides I haven't ever seen ANY tabletop campaign system I would judge worth playing (except probably Necromunda).
So I am currently creating my own (has a lot of RPG elements).
The (BF)Evo campaign system isn't of much use to me (no spies, no sabotage, no planet-wide map, no persistent destruction of battle areas and so on).

Maybe. But you can make as much 'inofficial' tournaments as you wish.
I will give an SST Tournament in Stuttgart somewhere in the future - and it will definately be SST 1.0 (be it just because the bulk of our players doesn't like Evo either).

I really hope it will be officially supported in the future. When I compare the BF:Evo Rulebook to the BF:Evo quickstart rules....there are not many "advanced" rules which might give detail to the game. The Evo system has become quite too simplyfied.

Come on MGP, revise the original rules(and include S&P articles) in one nice Hardcover(and don't forget the out of ammo rules!), and you would make many guys very happy! Together with a Forth Army Book and new (metal-) minis and all would be quite perfekt: A great game, great minis, great rules,.....*sigh*
Or just keep the rules and add the Forth rules and new Minis.

Not impressed by Evo[...]
Apparently no one seems. Every german SST player I know prefers the V1 rules. EVERY SINGLE ONE.
There are some small tweaks you need to make (in fact just ignore 2-3 rules like 'wounded' and add a new one 'regaining command') but that's it. No need for a new game that no one will play.
In worst case you can still scan the books and print them at your local copyshop if they are not available anymore (it may look ugly, but if its the only possibility to get printed rules I'd take it).
