What size hole to drill?

Hi all,

Some of the new NA and SF ships don't have the holes drilled enough to put the plug from the base in them. Does anyone know what size bit to use to drill out the holes? BTW, really liking the new bases and stems with the ball joint. B5 was just starting those at the end and I never used any so this is the first time really using them and they are pretty cool. Thanks!!

i may no doubt sound stupid here, but get your stem, and then get your drill bits.. and match them up? thats what i did on my b5 acta ships.

I've been using a 5/64ths bit. Use hand pressure. I wouldn't use a power drill unless you are really confident you won't punch through the other side of the mini.

I need to get a hand bit holder with a knob on the end so I can put pressure on the bit.

I've been using 2mm drill bits and these fit quite nicely with the swivel tops. (2mm is metric equivalent for 5/64ths).

I'm not such a fan of the swivel tops on the stands which is causing me a bit of a problem. If you leave off the swivel and just use the stem the top of that is about 1.8mm. This leaves a bit of a wobble on some of the ships!

I drill them out to fit my Ninja Magic magnets - I do recall getting my very first ACTA minis and going "where is the stand hole"!!!

I'm debating using Ninja Magic for these too. Whilst the ball/socket adapter is an improvement on the basic base, I've always had problems with them getting loose over time, especially when trying to hold heavier loads (such as metal models).

One trick which I've seen someone else use is to just glue the ball directly to the model, leaving out the socket. You can then plug the stem into the ball, or remove it again for transport. You might want to drill a wider, shallow hole to provide a more solid fixing point for the ball.
