I know that the white Star are Raid and the Victory are War.

But what about the Blue Stars, WS Carriers, WS gunship, WS fighters and Nolo'Tar Ranger Frigate. what class are they?

These are basically the ship levels...largest most deadly ships are at Armgeddon and they become smaller/less fire power as you go down the chain. This allows games to be balanced so you don't have one person w/ Armageddon ships fighting a couple Skirmish levels. So if you start a battle w/ say 1pt of Armageddon level, you can 'buy' 1 armageddon level ship, or 2 war level ships, or 3 battle, or 4 raid etc...you can also mix and match...1 pt 'buys' two ships from the next level down...sounds confusing but its not that bad. I think most do a 5 pt Battle or Raid game...you can then buy up in levels for more of your pt allotment if you want big ships, your fleet will just be smaller.

Do I have this correct all you cagey "old" veterans??

dude have a look at the ship viewers to determine the best choices for your fleet. But in the end it matters not my friend, The Clarke Loyalists are going to wreck you on monday.

your best bet would be to wait a few weeks then get the 2nd edition rules and fleet list when the come out at the end of august, you can then look through the lists and decide on your ships

2nd edition is out in a few weeks. The best way to get an overview for the current (Armageddon), SFOS or Tournment PDF stats is to use a ship viewer, link to mine is in my sig or LBH's or Chernobyl's.

And, if you've got the $100 to spend, the new ISA Fleet Box they're releasing soon is chock full of White Star-y goodness, and comes in at a full 5 points of Battle level fleet size.

You should be good to go, then. And, before you make any other decisions, I'd definately wait until 2e comes out on the 27th and flip through it.
