What is up with the Slowness of the Traveller products?

Mongoose
Hello everyone,

So what is the slow up of the release of the following traveller items:

- The Universe of Babylon 5
- Adventure 2: Prison Planet
- Supplement 3: Fighting Ships

All three of these products have been pushed a couple of times. Heck the B5 product has been talked about almost finished for near a month now. i know there are slow ups but man oh man. I pre-ordered them all and I need my Traveller resource fix!!!

Others might say they want their MTV, I want my Traveller stuff!

i'm all for proof reading, but the artwork needs some loving too. The PDF sample of Prison Planet has put me right off buying it when it comes out. Some of the art such as that of the vargr is competently done, but too childish to enjoy...

Fighting Ships is just awaiting approval, the other two are both at print right now!

Well that is awesome then about the two books at the printer, and that means ASAP as you get them in your warehouse those two along with my other two Conan books (also MG Pub products) will all ship out to me. I will be a happy camper for sure!!!

I don't judge a book by the artwork myself. I wouldn't be purchasing the book for the art, it's the content that matters.

Its about costs. If Mongoose wanted very top quality artists then they'd have to raise the price of the books. I think the artwork is good but I don't buy the books for the artwork.

You know, I think I DO buy books for the artwork. At the very least, cool artwork is likely to make me want to buy the book more. I'm not talking about filler pieces, but about illustrations that go with the text - ships, equipment, technology, etc. Some of the earlier Traveller editions really had fantastic artwork that helped solidify the feel of the setting in my mind.

I'd personally spend about another 25-30% more if the books contained really high quality art instead of the generally poor efforts seen so far. It's not such a problem for me as I can mentally cut'n'paste some decent art from an earlier product - but I think good art with solid direction behind it really does add value.

I would say that while the art quality has definitely been mixed, saying it is "generally poor" is a gross exaggeration. I think some folk are looking back at old editions of Traveller with rose tinted specs, as while some of that stuff is magnificent (Deitrick et al), there was far more half-assed humdingers in among it. I have all the reprints and my MT pdfs in front of me to prove it.

For the record, there has never been a decent picture of the Vargr. They are all Napoleonic gentlemen with the heads of dogs. At least the one in Prison Planet is competently drawn.

There is some fine art in the MGT products so far. My only issue is that some of the best stuff is ill served by not being printed on glossy paper.
