What happens to unreleased bound spirits if a shaman dies?

What happens to unreleased bound spirits if a shaman is killed?

If they are still bound, what if the fetish is destroyed?

If they are released from their binding and it is a curse or sickness spirit, will it be returned to the spirit plane or be available to select a target and then attack as that seems to be the only purpose of that type of spirit?

I would let them roam free.

I'd say, some of them return to the Spirit Plane and some stay to cause problems (if that suits your story).
