IMTU, the computers still need to stop running all extraneous programs before they will initiate the jump sequence. How awful would it be to have to attribute your catastrophic misjump to your game of solitaire throwing an error? What this may lack in realism is more than made up for in stressing to the players just how serious Jump is and how "advanced" this technology is in the Imperium, regardless of the fact that it is over a thousand years old.
