I thought this might have been mentioned by now, but I remember watching both these launches (barely remember) all those years ago. I remember my grade school science teacher asking us what we thought would be discovered. I think I said "The Force" or something stupid like that.. 
I had recently watched Star Wars at the theater. Hey, I was a 5th grader....
Anyway I think this is one of Humanities greatest achievements to date. A man made object is now in interstellar space. That's just cool.
