Also a living campaign wouldn't hurt :)
"Creatures of Legend", "Arms of Legend", and maybe "Living Legend", the name does lend itself to some cool derivatives.
Living Legend!!!! I didn't even think about that. What a cool name for the a living campaign :)

I absolutely agree with Deleriad.

Of course it's far more grey than this, but simplistically, I suspect not tweaking the rules runs more risk of lost sales than tweaking them.

Also, one mans bug is another mans feature, so you have to be really careful in deciding, what actually needs tweaking...

yeah, it can be hard... but there are 2-3 issues that keep leading to questions here on this forum - charging, combat movement and combat styles - I'd start there.

Say in the sorcery section they created a list of 24 generic grimoires with spell lists then that would be useful tool for new players. Again, such a thing is effectively invisible to RQII players but adds value to Legend.
But when I buy the first Legend campaign book, and find references to all these grimoires in the NPC stats, and my MRQII book doesn't have them, I'm in the same position as if they had changed the rules.

So if the stats said (for example):

Nasty McMad the Necromancer
blah blah
Manipulation 110%. Grimoire (The Necronomicon) 105%: Animate (Flesh & Bone), Decrease (INT), Palsy, Wrack (Flesh).

That you wouldn't be able to play that using RQII?

One of the constant complaint I hear from newcomers is "how do I determine what spells to put in grimoires?" Give a list of 24 Grimoires with associated spells and you have a useful starting point.

The name is definitely better, and the move to an 'open' license is great! I had been quite pessimistic about the future of 'Wayfarer-now-Legend', doubting Mongoose's commitment to the system. But I'm feeling much better about the future of the system now!

I'm 'okay' with the new digest format. I quite liked the hardback leather books, but they were not cheap.

My only disappointment with this announcement is that there is no mention of any future 'Eternal Champion' books. If Mongoose has no intention on producing any future Elric, Hawkmoon, or Corum supplements, I wish that they would simply drop the license so that someone else could give it a try. But perhaps I'm being too pessimistic again, and will be pleasantly surprised in due course...

I am very much looking forward to the 'Legend' version of The Spider God's Bride, and will definitely be picking it up once it becomes available.

Essentially if what they did was a fine tooth-comb editorial pass based on the best part of 2 years of questions, comments and experience what you would end up with is something that is RQII+. That's what I hope they'll do. My decision would then be: ok I don't have to buy it but it's cheap, convenient and would be useful. At that point I would buy it.

Yes, this is what Mongoose should do. I agree completely. 8)

But if they are available as a download (which they've committed to do), you have the details. That way you only need to buy the new book if you want everything in one place.

But really, no licence? What assurance do 3rd party publishers have that it won't be revoked?

Ah, yes, I suppose they do have to list the spells that the NPC has learned from the Grimoire. "Grimoire (The Necronomicon) 105%: All spells", though, that's what I was thinking of.

So will there be continued support for Eternal champion/ Elric ?

They sad so in earlier announcements.

Yes they did. But I'm reading all of the information and commitments against a background that sales of RQ were not everything Mongoose hoped for. So I'm assuming that ongoing support will only come if there is a threshold level of sales.

It should go without saying, after all Mongoose is a for-profit company, but I think it's easy to lose track of.

Legend, hmm ?

I can see where this is going ...

2009: Matthew Sprange - I am Mongoose
2012: Matthew Sprange - I am Legend

This is all excellent news and heralds a great future for d100 gaming and for Wayfarers (the game of nuns vs bears, as I think of it). But seriously, this is great to hear... er... read.

You heard our new tagline? "Wayfarers: Explore the ancient struggle between nuns and bears!"

I don't think the new book will leave the same impression (fortunately?).

Right on! This is all very optimistic for my favourite game line. "Legend" works really well. Thanks to all involved for the positive direction this is heading in. How is it going for Age of Treason?
