Vincent's NPCs

I thought there might be some interest in the NPCs I have used in various campaigns over the years. If so, here they are. If not, then don't download them.

Keep in mind, I used these for campaigns, and often made them up fairly quickly for the games, so they haven't been double and triple checked for accuracy like they would be if I intended them for publication.

I'll be adding to this from time to time as I gather up the NPCs, so check back often.

More to come later.

Now all of those documents are hosted at http://hyboria.xoth.net/characters/index.htm for easier downloading (Thanks Thulsa!)

Here is over a hundred pages of Turanians:

Nice! Even though I'm not playing in a game right now these will be great for later. I'm supposed to be your friend why didn't I get them first? LOL

LOL! Some of them you DO have already.

The best thing about these documents is that they are easy to modify to make new characters. If you want a 5th level character of mixed class, find a 3rd level one and add a couple levels of whatever you want... and there you go.

I added some more today. I particularly like the one with characters from Black Colossus.

I love the Black Colossus story. It feels to me as if we only saw a thimble weight of the entire story. I think an entire trilogy of novels could be spent telling that story.

It'd also be a fantastic basis for a campaign. I just read Black Colossus for the first time a few months ago, and as soon as I finished the last page, I envisioned a campaign held together by the BC story.

The players will come in early and live through the entire experience. I'm sure it took Thugra some time to raise his army. I was thinking that maybe the PCs are with the thief that awakens Thugra in the beginning of the story--or they've heard of him, have to search for him, knew about his quest and wondered what happen to him.

Or, maybe do it from the perspective of soldiers that will face Thugra later.

I'd have Conan come in and play his part as an NPC.

The story really can be an interesting Adventure seed. There'd be much to do, both before Conan enters the scene and after the story ends.

Black Colossus is one of my favourites also... and for the same reason. Indeed, Marvel even did the same kind of thing you are mentioning in their colour comics - they retconned Red Sonja and Zula into the story, and just put them in the background doing things while Conan was off doing the REH stuff (Marvel had already adapted Black Colossus in Savage Sword, so they didn't want to just repeat that - so they gave a multiple issue redo, giving a behind-the-scenes kind of thing that gives a different perspective on the story).

I added a couple of versions of Thoth-amon. The first version is the one that appeared in Stygia - Serpent of the South and is a straight scholar (mostly because I flip back and forth on my attitude about prestige classes in general). The second version revises the first, using the Lord of the Black Ring prestige class (and some spells) from Secrets of Skelos.

Personally, I think either version is superior than Ian Sturrock's version (appearing in Scrolls of Skelos and reprinted, errors and all, in Secrets of Skelos). Some of that attitude is ego, but also I feel Ian's version isn't any weaker without the Ring, and makes his enslavement in Phoenix on the Sword implausible. My version goes a long way to correct that. Also, there are errors and strange things in Ian's version (an extra 2d10 hit dice, for example, and Weapon Focus (dagger) (?)). YMMV. (at the very least, they provide a template for you to come up with your own version of Thoth-amon... maybe we should have contest - who can come up with the best Thoth-amon?)

Keep 'em a-coming, bro! I'm snatching each one, printing it, and keeping them with my S&P Conan articles for game reference.

Don't be surprised if you find one of your NPCs showing up in my Cimmerian Blood campaign (that is growing to be a monster--I set out to create a sandbox, but I didn't realize I'd get this detailed about it. Of course, I'm fed by my players' interest.)

I've noticed that the Black Kingdoms NPCs are the most popular. Don't know if that is because they are listed first or because people are hungry for Black Kingdoms material... but it has more than twice the downloads than the second place document.

Vincent, my guess is why the Blck Npcs are the most popular is because mist adventuring parties are hyborian (heck, why not every class is preferred and the bonus fate point!). Conan's coolest adventures were always in the Black Kingdoms, whether it was Tombalku, Xuthal, Xuchotal, Belit, Yan-Yoga, etc...
I think it is just a matter of supply and demand.
Corinthiaan watchmen are a dime a dozen.

In any case, thanks for the bundle!

I think what you're seeing is an effect of the file transfer site you're using. After the first download, they want you to sign up and pay, or wait 15 min for another freebie download.

I really wanted the NPCs, and I've been on the net lately, so I actually waited 15 min between downloads. I bet others don't have the need/patience that I have.

It would be helpful if you used a truly free site or lumped all the NPCs into one download.

First off, let me add my thanks to Vincent for all these wonderful NPCs. This really is a treasure-trove of material for any Conan GM. :D

However, I just took a look at the Famous Fallen document and it appears that Livia, Salome and Tascela all have Conan's stat block listed instead of their own.

I was really quite surprised to see Livia listed as a Cimmerian barbarian. Seriously, my first thought was "gee, I really didn't get that from the story...."

Then I scanned further....

I added a file for characters from "The People of the Black Circle," my all-time favourite Conan story. This file includes generic acolytes of the Black Circle and generic hillmen.

http://rapidshare.com/files/408066510/14_Characters_from_People_of_the_Black_Circle.doc.html

File includes:

Conan of Ghor
The Devi Yasmina
The Master of Yimsha
Khemsa the Rakhsha
Gitara
Kerim Shah
Yar Afzal
Generic Wazuli Tribesmen
Chunder Shan
Generic Lancers of Vendhya
Acolytes of the Black Circle
Generic Afghuli Tribesmen
Turanian Soldiers from Secunderam

This is awesome. I always use NPCs from every book, whether I'm actually using the adventure or not. I'm currently making a reference cheat sheet for myself. Book/page number/npc class and levels. Every book. Great to have the list on hand since I try to keep my games open and I don't like spending sooo much time on making npc's when it can be better spent elsewhere. Of course with this thread, I may not need to complete said list. Thanks Vince!
