Victory points for fighters

In Matt & Mongoose's defence...
One of the points of Armageddon was to get rid of the separate tournament lists, and just use one ruleset. So it would be a little strange if the Mongoose tourney rules are different to standard Armageddon. The ITF2 and MoW packs explicitly state that aux craft are worth 1 VP, whether launched or bought as wings, and this backs up Matt's ruling that that is how it's always meant to work in Armageddon.

Having said that, tis a silly rule, in our campaign we house-rule it to Armageddon "as written", that is aux craft are only worth VP if bought as wings.

One thing I do not like is that it changes the value of vps a patrol choice would give. Kotha giving six points up in a raid fight seems a bit much compared to the T-Bolts three.

If the fighters give VPs then the Poseidon needs be dropped a priority level or two. Its almost worthless as it is (just a big shiny war level target) but giving its 16 flights VPs also will basically make the few people that actually use it no longer want to use it anymore.

Its really sad that the EA has nothing worth fielding above a battle level choice.

That's my point. It says in the Tournament packs that they give 1VP but in Armageddon it refers to Shadow fighters rather than all fighters. At least that's how I read it (and that's how I'll play it at least for now). And I thought that under SFOS and Armageddon it was 1VP per wing rather than per base for bought wings ? Have to check that when I'm home.

I think the reasoning was so that bookkeeping was minimised (having to keep track of which fighters came from which source). As a consequence though, they neatly rendered most carriers (whether by trait or otherwise) much less useful due to the penalty of points they give away.

I too like most other people play that bought fighters give VPs per wing destroyed and "free" fighters give away no VPs.

I think the rules atm are a bit oddly written - 1VP per base seems to be the tournament tack, whilst in Armageddon proper I think it states '1 VP per wing of 4 flights, or part thereof'.

It is another dissuading element to those thinking of taking a carrier - or, as in a few games of MoW (2 that I played!) it can make your opponent refrain from launching any fighters at all (Triggy had 20 flights of abbai fighters he never launched because I had 8 Nials) - Hash had 12 or so bases that he afterwards reflected he shouldn't have launched.

Fighter VPs can (and do) win you or lose you games.
