Vehicle Dtonnage (for placement in ships)

Hey, you can take a walk outside on an S class. But wear a suit...
"Ya know, we only found that Ancient warship hidden in jumpspace be-
cause our medic takes his dog out on a float twice each day ..."

barnest: lol not during a jump you can't...

At least on a Free Trader you get a chance to organise a game in the cargo hold... or go hide in a corner with a book or video game or something... on an S-Type you can't even do that - unless you go sit in the Air/Raft for some peace and quiet... :)

Yes you can. You'll just go insane. Or be ripped apart. Depends on who you talk too.

And someone's been watching firefly (who wants to play B-ball in the hold)

After serving on a Type S for a couple of years going insane is hardly a
threat.

I was going on the rulebook - where it says that anyone stepping out dies... :)

And yeah, the B-ball in the cargo hold is a sensible idea... you gotta do something to keep your crew busy and occupied... :)

I was actually going more on the british armed forces' abilities to find somewhere quiet for a smoke when the NCOs aren't looking...

Or make tea. I cant believe the capabilities of the Army to find the time for tea.
I'm sure I've read about tea being served mid fire-fight...

Give a man a tea bag and his mess tin, and he'll be brewing tea for his platoon in about thirty seconds. And he'll have a fag on as well.

That's debatable - I'd argue that you were already insane to get on the thing in the first place, though...

I was just designing a small craft - I was going to put 2 weeks of fuel on board - until I realised that the poor 2-man crew were going to be stuck in their seats for that long without the chance to even move...

Needless to say - I've dialled it back to a couple of days... and then I pity the crew...

Or in the british armed forces squaddies' abilities to reuse said teabags beyond their normal life span (which is why they drink tea, not coffee, I think). Marine officer candidate at school used to reuse his teabags 5 or 6 times each... :)

Park your car in a clear spot and then build the ship around it using the flags, starting with the air/raft bay.
Yep, the entire Type S is smaller than a WWI submarine. Its price includes
guaranteed claustrophobia.

It is also larger than some realize. You see "smallest possible starship" and a subconscious "this is small" assumption kicks in. It's a four-bedroom apartment with a cramped attic, and a different world out the front door every two weeks.

Hey , you could even knock out two of the staterooms and make a large crew area if you're willing to share. And if you're doing watch on watch off, then hot bunking is hardly a big deal.

You just really have to take a look at the size and configuration before extrapolating from there.
Example: G/bikes are built on a 2m^3 cycle config. I would say that they're no more than .75-1.0 meters at the widest point. Call it a maximum of one. Length? 2, 2.5 meters. Let's say a maximum of 2.5. In my deckplans, that's pretty much the exact height of a typical deck due to overhead clearances.
I say that you can wall-rack mount 2 g/bikes per dton. I have a G/bike bay for my deck plans that's 2 dtons deckplan/3 dtons design: bike rack, space to get on one, and a a hatch similar to the ones used in an Air/raft bay. Only difference? With a G/bike you can ride out of that bay like you stole it
