VaS 2.0 Development Progress

The WWI game is fine and has an expansion coming out soon. I believe there is also stuff coming out for russo japanese stuff in the future.

Looking forward to it. I have a copy of AoD, all I need to find is a distributor in the US that actually carries ship mini's.

And by distributor I mean accessible sales to the FLGS, not direct sales that bypass the FLGS

One of the reasons I was overjoyed to hear Mongoose would have it's own line. Mongoose sells via distribution. Of course you are going with WW2 first. Disappointing for me, but since there seem to be more people interested in WW2 than there are in WW1 & Pre-Dreadnought, probably the wisest choice.

Hello.
My group in Bangor, Maine, USA, just did a major playtest game on 10 March. We had the scouting forces of the IJN and USN meet (about a dozen cruisers and a dozen-and-a-half destroyers per side). We modified the VaS 1 data for ships.

We found that the game played VERY well. We had 3 USN and 4 IJN players. The only real difficulty was that fire took too long because of the "I-shoot-you-shoot" mechanic. In large games, I strongly suggest what one player (grad of the US Naval Academy) said: Fire all BBs, then all CAs, then all CLs, then all DDs - each ship type as simultaneous fire.

One player was 12 years old, and even he had no problem learning the rules. The one with the most problems was a veteran of VaS 1 who occasionally lapsed back in the middle.

When I run my big convention naval battles, I set up each player with there own fleet. Each fleet usually has 2xBBs, 4x Cruisers and 8x DDs or for smaller games I cut there fleets in half. My biggest games I run are 10 players on a 8' x 15' table. They normally last about 4 hours.
Ages common from 10 to 60. Usually the young players have help from there parents.

Spence I think you will find fewer and fewer LGS are carrying naval Minis these days which is forcing the issue of direct sales.

Not sure if you are familiala with Panzerschiffe?

They are a small mom and pop producer of inexpensive 1/2400 minis. The large capital ships do not compare well to GHQ ,Moongoose and others, but for WWI cruisers and especially Pre-dreads that have enough detail and look great.

Here is the before and after of USS Maine:

Not bad for a $3.00 model plus my time in painting and adding the masts.

Here are some of the ships I used for my Falklnads campaign using AoD:

Back on topic I am glad to see some progress is being made on the Vas 2.0 front. As Ray is aware I am a huge fan of Naval Thunder for my gun battles, but it lacks in the area of Naval Air operations.

My hope it that VaS 2.0 will be a bit more streamlined in the oganization of the rules as well as provide a bit more support in the form of Ship Data cards.

Look forward to seeing the finished product.

In preliminary layout at the moment, for which we will do some previews soon, and the first round of playtesting is complete - but still a fair ways to go yet.

I been lurking in the background for a long long time, just getting my mitts into VaS now wondering just how far to get mitts in with VaS 2 somewhere over the horizon.

Old friend of DM with a set of rules called Fleet Action that never got to release, VaS is now replacing them but in paper form..

Hoping that the VaS 2 has more variance and some 'cleaning' up of areas such as the turning rules (does not help having two different templates, one for each direction).

What I saw at Colours looked good, some changes, and some same. Didn't play, had kiddies to look after.

Almost tempted to the 1:1800 ships but then I got 1:3000 and 1:6000 already, not fair to go to another scale on my finances.
