Greetings all.
I've been working on Vassal lately.
I'm putting together a mod for BFE.
The last time i worked with Vassal was with ACTA before 2E.
There has been alot of improvements to the Vassal game engine itself in the mean time.
Probably the most significant is the huge increase in memory therefore allowing higher resolutions counters and boards.

Heres a list of possible upgrades i could make to VACTA.
1) I learned today how to put a full length boresight beam on any counter that will rotate with the counters.
Allows for deadly accurate boresighting now.
2) I could give every counter a weapons range option on the right click so you don't have to measure anymore just choose the weapons system and a highlighted field will appear showing range.
3) Huge scope for increasing the graphical detail of space terrain like planets and the board itself.
4) Sounds can be added now. Do you wanna hear your Whitestar pulsars when u fire etc?

Such new additions , increasing counter detail and sound would increase the size of the mod significantly.
Therefore such a mod would only be suitable for people with dsl/cable/broadband interent cause otherwise it would take to long to download.
I guess i'm asking is it worth the time in doing?
Anybody bothered? :lol:

Anyway enough of me for now. If your wondering what the hell am i doing toying with Vassal on a Wednesday afternoon? I have the flu and i'm to lazy to get up off my chair to do anything else except blow my nose.
 
I'll work on it when the mood strikes :)

I'm looking forward to the next big Vassal update.
I'll be able to make Klingon ships cloaking during battle etc :shock: :)
 
The next version of Vassal, the game engine, coming june 2008, will allow for counters (ships) to disappear during the game and reappear at will.
It already does this but the difference will be an update so that any invisible counter if moved will still report its movement in the chat interface.
For example, Ship? moves ??
Currently there is nothing stopping somebody cheating when a ship (counter) is invisible because it doesn't report movement (of an invisible counter).

P.S. Third age and half of Crusade ships now with added new Boresight beam.
 
Ok all EA fleets have the new boresight targeting.

Added a Turn Counter on the interface, so no more "what turn is this? 5? 6?" :lol:

Added the choice to choose the plain black board or the new starfield board, its upto you.

The next feature of adding a weapons range field for each weapons system per ship on the right click menu is a huge task and will take a long time.
I'll also need some help with creating the fire arc range field from somebody who can use photoshop, i can't.
