So, I am creating my own setting. While it is work in progress, I also have a vision in my head of how it is shaped and works.
I am approaching it though, with an inspiration behind the Eberron setting, but not as an influence. The competition Wotc did way back when had the entrant create a setting using the 'generic' if that is an accurate word, material from their setting in constructing the world. A line from Eberron along the lines of: if it exists in D&D it has a place in Eberron really inspired me.
So, I've been playing this game since MRQ1, and kind of did 'Glorantha/MRQ1:' my setting as 'D&D:Eberron'. That is not to say I stole Gloranthan races or the like, I merely took a vague concept and did my own thing with it. Theft? No! My own fun little take in a hobbyist/fan sorta way, yes...
At the moment, I am trying to figure out what fits, and what does not with my world, which I am approaching as a project. While it most likely will never be published, I am writing the setting as if it were an RPG supplement in book format.
So these are fantasy races, with a commentary behind them:
Humans (Obviously)
Dwarfs
Elves (of dark, light and wood variety)
Orcs (more neutral, with an oriental, samurai society feel)
Halflings (Wip, still figuring out their place)
Lizardmen (civilised like humans, took inspiration from Slarge but made them different)
Goblins (no relation to Orcs, and are different to 'normal' goblins, not a violent race)
Tiefling (inspired, but not Tieflings per se, and quite different to the D&D kind)
I have a couple of my own races in there, but the following I am not sure on including:
Minotaurs (appeared in my previous RQ games, not sure they have a place)
Snow Trolls (not sure they had a place)
Dark Trolls (not sure they have a place)
Timinits (would modify them, not sure they have a place)
I'd love to discuss with someone the 'creative process' and help me come to conclusions or discuss my ideas, and help me out a little.
I am doing a MRQ 1 campaign at the moment, and hate telling a new player pick a race from this list (the PC race list from the start of the MRQ 1 monsters book) and then going 'no, not that one, pick another' two or three times.
