Update: Tank in a day - Soviet AFVs

The work on the Soviet Vehicle Compendium for World at War progresses nicely. Text Review is done and I can concentrate on more models for the book.
This weeks model: Italieri ISU-122s and Pegasus SU 152 kits. Very easy to assemble and reasonable good detailed. They really come alive with the AB crew miniatures!

And a Roden 1/72 Iosef Stalin 3 tank kit. A very detailed kit (actually too detailed for me, the turret “grips” were to fiddly for my skills!). As usual an AB Commander mini was added.

The infantry is from Italieri (left two) and the cameraman is another excellent THQ/CP (never understood the difference BTW) mini!

And close-up pics of the AB tank commanders.

As usual more on my website: http://www.agisn.de/html/20mm_soviet.html

Very nice indeed! I love seeing stuff like this, it really motivates me! I recently discovered Armourcast model kits which are very simple to put togther with hardly any small parts which make them ideal for a gaming piece. You also get 2 tanks in the box for around $10! Unfortunately, there are only about a dozen tanks they make,
I am really looking forward to the book you are working on!

Thanks!
:D
Armourcast? I presume Armourfast, or?
Armourcast was the company who produced these big, chunky resin 40K Titans, or?

As far as Armourfast is concerned: 2 of their Su-85 kits are on the table...

Doh! Yes, thank you! They are indeed Armourfast! Please excuse me.
LOL, no problem, I just wanted to make sure that nobody searches the Net for Armoucast WW 2 vehicles...

One thing to note regarding Armourfast's T34/85 is that the box instructions are wrong - the bottom part of the hull should be fitted the other way round (the box shows the rear being fitted to the front of the upper hull. I'd read reviews of how hard it was to put them together but after I worked this out they got together in minutes. :)

...and another update!

This week I tried 2 armoured cars (SHQ BA-6 and 10):

and a special project; my M3 land lease Command HT:
M3 by Hasegawa, Driver Italieri, Rest of the crew AB! Ahh, the joy of 20mm model building!

And another one!
An early war multiturreted T-28 (metal one from SHQ).

More as usual on my website!

Expertly painted as usual :)
I've a serious question though - Do tanks and vehicles really last that long in wartime to get that rusty?

Its interesting how you modeled the M2 with an open path to the passanger compartment. Reading 'Sniper on the Eastern Front', I was under the impression that the M2's driver's compartment was seperate from the passanger compartment...

Incidentally, the sniper in question discovered he could snipe the driver through the vision slit... rendering the Soviet tactic of 'drive up through the enemy and dump troops amongst them' useless.

YES! Countless photos prove a rusty condition on AFVs.

realy !!!!! a towed out russian T34 from a bog after over 40 years burried showed less rust.....

i like the paint scheme alot, but i have to agree the rust is a bit OTT but then ive added rust on mine as well around battle damage.. and scratches, but to be honest the paint was very hard wearing lead based that didnt exibit rust and helped protect the tanks... evan now there are tanks in russia on display in remote parts not tended for or looked after since the wall came down in the 80's and they still exibit not rust on the hulls evan exsposed to the russian elements.. but il still add rust to mine lol.. helps break up the flatness.

personaly i say keep the rust, it looks good after all..

What is the point of your message?
If you do not like the paintjob say so, but what is the purpose of this reply?
:( I really do not get it...

I think he's saying that the rust streaking is overstated but that he likes the effect anyway, so carry on painting as you are :D

A little bit of salt air, a bit of exposure to any sand or abrasive - that'll bugger your paint up right quick.

I do my desert tanks with a 'worn through to the metal at the edges' and brown inked look.
