University Education Bonus

When one attends University, the rules state "Increase EDU by +1", then under Graduation Benefits, it says "Increase EDU by +2".

Is this a cumulative increase, so a Traveller who graduates from University gets +3 EDU, or is it incremental, such that you either get +1 or +2, depending on whether you graduate or not?

As it is currently written it is cumulative. If one successfully graduates from university they come out with a total +3 to their Edu.

My perspective. The actual value of ones characteristic is not as important as what is it's DM.

A total increase of 2 would likely, but is not guaranteed to increase the EDU DM. A increase by 3 will increase the EDU DM by 1. I think a decent, plausible outcome for completing 4 years of additional education.

I wasn't discussing my view of what I think it should be I was talking about how the rules are written.

As the rules are currently written the increase is cumulative.

A Character that successfully enters and graduates university increases their EDU Characteristic by 3 points. e.g. their EDU Characteristic goes from 8 (+0) to 11(+1)

Which is what FallingPhoenix was asking for clarification on.

I agree with those seeking clarification. Is it an additional +2 EDU (i.e. +3 in total) when honours are gained, or simply +2 EDU by the end of the term (i.e. honours grants an additional +1 EDU)?

(I don't see how this can be written any more clearly, the two increases are separate bullets, in separate paragraphs.)

As the rules are currently written.

You get +1 for getting into universtiy.

If you gradutate, you get another +2.

For a total of +3.

For successfully getting though university you are guaranteeing a DM increase in EDU.

Well, it could certainly be clearer. The way it is stated is clear enough for some, perhaps, but not all. If this weren't clarified, I would assume the character would get +1 then +2, but still wouldn't be sure if this was what the author intended.

To be clearer the text would state that graduation grants an *additional* +2 EDU. The bullet would then read:

"Increase EDU by an additional +2."

It would fit on the line without pushing the page layout and it doesn't hurt clarity, obviously.

If the intended meaning was to have EDU +2 by the end of the term then the bullet should read:

"Increase EDU by an additional +1."

The thing is they are seperate benefits, for different parts of the university process. One is during entry, while the other during graduation.

I will conceed, putting in the "additional" would make it more clear but as it stands there is enough seperation that there should be 2 Di throws before you even look at adding that Edu +2

Di throw 1: Uni Event.
Di throw 2: Graduation.

So if anything to make it more clear there should maybe be a bigger seperation between the entry and the Graduation sections.
