Typo in RQ Vikings

Polenesian (Maori migration accross the Pacific in canoes!)

A lot of potential here! Easter Island, long-distance navigation, a huge variety of small-island environments, travel to mysterious uninhabited atolls/volcanic islands. Great mythology, magic, wide-ranging trade networks, first contact situations with European/Chinese/Other ships.

I'd buy this in a second.

Apparently Land of the Samurai will be returning early 2011...
I'd like to see some really OTT martial arts rules for RQ, something that could do all the stuff in Kung Fu Hustle.

While I would love to have a good MRQ2 supplement for the wuxia genre, Land of the Samurai would be the wrong place to include them. The Samurai are a world of their own and including outrageous martial art rules and combat maneuvers would only eat up space from the proper material for that era.

We have to teach it as part of the science curriculum over here in NZ. It's quite incredible stuff what they did.

I didn't mean to say that I'd like to see the rules in that book.

Useful for Glorantha, too. I'd have no problem believing that the East Isles part of the world map isn't to scale, and actualy the islands are scattered across a vast ocean similar in size to the pacific.

But, the Keets saved it! That's what Vithela would have been like if they hadn't joined hands and sung kumbaya.

Pete Nash (the author of RQ Vikings) posted some additional info over at BRP Central a few months back.

The link is: http://basicroleplaying.com/showthread.php/2019-RQ-II-Vikings?p=33248#post33248

Hope this helps,

Ian

Thanks for the link. It doesn't appear to be clear on the subject, but I suspect the book doesn't detail Norse Cults. Is there any information available on how to make your own cults, beyond Chapter 11 in the the rules? I'm concerned about balance.

Well I picked up my copy of RQ Vikings at lunch time from my FLGS.

It is an excellent book (IMHO one of the best RQ books I've purchased).

On the subject of Cults a text box states:

"Some Games Masters will be disappointed at the lack of Divine Magic cults for each of the Norse gods. Although the concept of Rune Priests of Thor casting lightning bolts sounds pretty cool, not even the most fantastic eddas and sagas reflect this type of thing in their entertaining tales...

<----snip---->

... Thus for campaigns where the players want to join cults and wield Divine Magic, the authors suggests purchasing Cults of Glorantha and adapting the gods of the Orlanthi pantheon to their Viking equivalents..."

Hope this answers your question more clearly. BTW did I say what a great book RQ Vikings is? I did. Good. :D

That answers it exactly. Thanks. Are there roughly equivalent gods from the Orlanthi pantheon to adapt in Cults of Glorantha?

I think there aren't many equivalents of Norse gods in Orlanthi pantheon...

Orlanth thunderous is a good equivalent to Thor, and Orlanth rex is more or less like Odin. I'd use Yelmalio for Tyr and the Trickster for Loki.

But it will not be easy to convert other cults...

Yeah a fair few of the Norse gods are a bit more tricky than traditional Orlanthi ones. For example Skaði is the goddess of winter and of hunting. So bits of Valind and Odayla could be mixed to give some kind of framework. But I think that there would be weeks of work in it to do a reasonable job for all the Norse pantheon.

It would be very cool to see a "Deities and Demigods" type product from Mongoose with cults for all the many mythological pantheons.

Please... do NOT give Matt Sprange ideas...
