Completely random but I am starting a Maptools/Skype (voice) of Fury of the Deep in a month of so, with some friends of mine the UK and Australia.

Should be fun. If it goes well, I will be looking to do a mega Sleeping Gods, Elven Crystals and Prince of Darkness campaign as a follow up.

Sounds cool! :)

How will you be handling stats, character sheets, dice rolls, etc.? Are you going to create a Maptool framework?

Nah. We keep it pretty loose to cut down on prep time all around. No macros other than basic dice rolling. With voice Skype going and a system like Dragon Warriors, its not an issue at all in play. We use the initaive tracking tool too.

Players are responsible for their own character sheets, but we also have a shared Dropbox file if needed.

I like to keep my prep down with this kind of stuff, so I simply use the black and white line maps in the PDF, resize to the right scale and add visual blocking layers. Rather than a detailed grid based combat tool like for 3e or 4e, I use the map more like a simple pen and paper like I used when I ran DW back in the day to show relative positions during combat and to map the "dungeon" as the PCs advanced.

It took my 90 minutes to prep the entirety of Fury of the Deep, which is better than spending over 10 hours drawing pretty maps for it :)

Please, please, please do an AP thread somewhere. :)

Will do.

I will reiterate that Fury of the Deep is an excellent dungeon, one of the best examples of how the style remains a good one even in modern times. It is so full of atmosphere and plot.

I really like how the dungeon itself feels like the antagonist of the story. Using Maptools to represent exploration and light really gives the players a sense of the overwhelming space and claustrophobia.

Here is hoping that SKG find a way to PoD it :)
