Turning Template

Is it just me, or is the turning template confusing? I understand how to turn, as shown on page 6, and it works just fine for turning to starboard as shown in the example. But since the first point of turning (the dark gray band) is wider than the other points, shouldn't the template be printed on both sides so that turns to port are the same?

Yeah, we noticed that too.

Not sure what the intent was. . . but we came up with a solution!

We took one turning template put it on the right half of a single card, then copied a mirror image of it onto the left half. The result is a rectangular card that can handle turns in both directions and treats turns in both directions exactly the same!

ACTA and VaS have different turning circles.

The turning circle thing was my fault, I am annoyed at this far more than the typos - first time I had to put a game like this together - BUT the turning counter can be used to turn both sides.

If you have a turn 2 ship (for example) line the counter up so the ship is below the turn 2 marker and then simply turn the ship so that it is lined up with what be the starting position if the turning couter had been used normally (I hope that makes sense - will try to get pics up to explain this better).

Turning counters are the one thing I find incredibly useful to be made from clear material (like the Gale Force 9 ACTA ones), so if one comes onto the market I will be grabbing it myself!

I still can't see why Mongoose didn't use the polyhedral version with each vertice a different angle (we passed a file round during playtest). You just line it up on the side of the ship, and turn the bow to the new angle - and, importantly, NOTHING OVERLAPS! The official one just seems remarkably clumsy to me, since you always have to hold it over the ship while you move it, or move the ship over it then pull it out from under.

Don't know exactly what you are describing, but would be interested to see anything that makes the turning easier!

Here's the one we used:

i woudl guess ships move round the outside of it to the turning point they can make (a bit like GWs man'o'war).

actually I was thinking more along the lines of the turning key from the good old days of Car Wars....

actually an image of a newer version but I digress...

I suppose I could trace the paper template onto some clear plastic material, then I could just flip it over depending in which way the ship is turning.

This could be an opportunity for Gale Force 9! :)

If somone'll post a link to the MGP template, I'll work one up for both turn directions, like the ACTA one. :)

What a silly place to put that. :)

I'll get working on it. :)

[edit] There's already a 2 sided turn counter in the counters file. I guess my work here is done.
