True Romance (Tarantino) and R. E. Howard

I saw again this masterpiece recently and when I think of it, this is a plot and an adventure I am sure Howard would have been proud to write (with a reference to the several factions gun fighting at the end).

Own it. Seen it many times. Great movie. Probably my favorite QT movie. Most would put Pulp Fiction or the Kill Bills ahead of it, and don't get me wrong, those are great movies too, but there is just something about True Romance.

I'd love to hear why you think Howard would have been proud to write it.

Because the gun fighting in the end involves several different factions, which appears quite often in Howard's stories, at least in several Conan stories.

It's been years since I watched this movie. I'm gonna try and watch it again. Wonder why the movie channels never play it on their rotation. Geez, they should throw "True Romance" in one of the qazillion timeslots Shawshank gets. :roll:

The most curious thing in the movie though, it that though the guy is a fan of Elvis who act as his mentor, there is not even one song of the king.
Anyway, the movie is great and everyone plays his role to the perfection (I think Brad Pitt can really play any role).

Gary Oldman was phenomenal. Course, he's always phenomenal.

That's one thing that is great about Tarantino: he always gets good actors.

Darn, I'm going to have to go out and buy this movie. It's been years since I've seen it and it's one of my favorites. Definitely my favorite Tarantino work, in spite of it starring Christian Slater.

The scene between Hopper and Walken is priceless.

Walken: "Sicilians are great liars. The best in the world. I'm Sicilian. My father was the world heavy-weight champion of Sicilian liars. From growing up with him I learned the pantomime. There are seventeen different things a guy can do when he lies to give himself away. A guys got seventeen pantomimes. A woman's got twenty, but a guy's got seventeen... but, if you know them, like you know your own face, they beat lie detectors all to hell. Now, what we got here is a little game of show and tell. You don't wanna show me nothin', but you're tellin me everything. I know you know where they are, so tell me before I do some damage you won't walk away from."

Walken: "I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood. You tell the angels in heaven you never seen evil so singularly personified as you did in the face of the man who killed you. My name is Vincent Coccotti. I work as counsel for Mr. Blue Lou Boyle, the man your son stole from. I hear you were once a cop so I can assume you've heard of us before. Am I correct? "

Strange. Never saw the connection between the movie and REH. Yet, it is one of my favorite films and my number one favorite writers (okay, he can duke it out with Tolkien). Awesome fight scenes!!!!

However, there is the old Marvel Comic connection with regard to his job. Hmm...
