In the last 2 games I started off my Traveller campaigns at Mertactor, in district 268. It has a decent Tech level, low law level, and at the edge of the Imperium. Easy jump off point for heading spinward towards the Five Sisters or even Foreven, or Rimward into the Reach. Good place for both "honest" and "not-so-honest" adventures.
For my next game I am considering starting them off within the Trojan Reach.
I don't know it as much as parts of the spinward marches, but where would be a good jumping off point for the game to begin? They can also use it as a "home port" to do their annual overhauls, etc...
Ideally it would have a good tech level and not a strangling high law level.
Preferablly within the Imperium but close to "open" space and Alsan territories. I have NEVER had characters adventure into Aslan territories before.
Any advice?
Oh, type of game will be mostly a typical motley crew with an armed frontier trader of some type. There is a small chance they might want to go with a mercenary type campaign, get "proper papers", hardier ship, heavier weapons, gear, etc.. and hire themselves out as escorts, raiders, etc... at this point it still a bit up in the air.
