I just dropped a note to the Mongoose Blog about Trial of Blood, and I'm interested in hearing what you guys think...

We do this stuff for you, after all. :)

I'm awaiting the release day of this campaign with glee!

This next advise is quite obvious, but I'll still say it anyways:

Ask for Vincent's opinion. 8) I'm positively sure you'll make a great job, but his word on the process can't hurt. :)

I think 12th level is a great ending point. You've now had this tremendous campaign... and so you brush yourself off and head back out for more. Definately a Conan feel there.

I'm happily impressed that you chose a realistic tone over, as you said, cheapening it by XP bloat. I was planning on buying this before... now I'll be first in line.

I just don't want to add filler encounters and monsters galore, when a good Conan story is what we want, right?
I absolutely agree with this. All those pointless filler encounters are what drag a lot of D&D adventures down, IMHO. Blood-drenched combat is definitely an important part of Conan, and I think it's fun to have one or two fights per game session. More than that, though, and me and my players start to get bored. Fights should be memorable and exciting, not simply exist to "fill out the levels"!

As for the level stuff, I'm not much concerned if the campaign is for levels 1-15 or 1-12. What I'm looking for in a campaign is the potential for many hours of connected gaming (hours, not levels), and the notion of "this will take you from level 1 to 20!" isn't really a selling point for me (it isn't a turnoff either by any means; I just don't care that much about the levels). Story should definitely come before any need to take things to a specific experience level.

All-in-all, it sounds like you're heading in the right direction with this project, and I'm definitely looking forward to it! :D

AWESOME!!!
Trial of Blood is DONE!!

cant wait to get it,
is it still on schedule for January, any way to get it sooner?
should we pre order?
around what dates can we see it about in the states?

I also found this synopsis on Amazon:

At the height of King Conan's reign, when he and his queen had blessed the world with a son and the kingdoms of Hyboria were separated by thin lines of tension and borders that were fragile as glass, there existed a prophecy. The prophecy spoke of the Blood of Atlantis, the true blood of the rulers of the world, which would flow in the veins of a young girl, who would give the fallen continent of Atlantis an heir - an heir that would unseat all the kings of men. King Conan's enemies had begun gathering all of the girls who match the prophecy, preparing the one to bear the child that would call up the forces of Atlantis to sack Tarantia and end Conan's reign once and for all. Trial of Blood is the first mega-campaign for the Conan Roleplaying Game Second Edition, placing a group of young adventurers in the path of prophecy and potentially disastrous events that could change Hyboria forever. Taking the characters from their roots as young men and women and hurling them through a series of linked scenarios that will pit them ultimately against the fate of Hyboria itself. Can your group of unlikely heroes possibly change the verdict of the Trial of Blood and save King Conan?

I like the idea a lot. This could be an excellent alternative to the end of Conan (if the PCs fail in the quest).

The plot looks nice. I'm already starting to regret that my campaign takes place before Conan's reign. With some luck, maybe I'll be able to change Conan for king Valerius, although I doubt it...

or if the PCs want to replace Conan by one of them. ;)

You could, but it would mean that a few of the bad guys wouldn't make much sense. It would be a lot of work, though.

If I get the cover art I asked for, that's exactly what it shoud show - the possible future. :)

:)

You will then be the first to express what happened to Conan at the end of his reign.
Did you include mass combat?

Oh no, if the players do everything right King Conan won't be neck-deep in rising Atlanteans, and this takes place well before Conan is said to have ended his reign and handed the crown down to Conn. I was just saying that the cover art is supposed to show a POSSIBLE future for Conan.

Did you include mass combat?

Nah, that will be the meat of a different book (we hope) and likely not needed here. :)

Slated for April (sorry, editors have a lot on their plates right now!), so it has only just fallen off the radar of the web site - it will reappear there at the end of the month.

To compensate though, you will be getting two Conan campaigns next year!
