Emperor Mongoose
I am reading "Behind The Claw", making notes.

I looked up the Spinward Marches on Traveller Map here and I understand (most) of the column headings. However, some of these headings are a mystery to me... what doe PBG, (Ex), [Cx], Nobility, W and RU mean? Is there a Traveller Map page that explains these things in more detail?

Ex is Economic Extension. Cx is Cultural Extension. I don't know if there is a key for those outside of T5 books. Nobility would be where you put those millions of nobles folks are talking about in other threads. :D I think the RU is Resource Units, which is for macroeconomic game play. So Zeycude loses money. I don't remember what W is.

"PBG" is Population multiple, (asteroid) Belts, and Gas giants. If the regular UWP population code is 6 and the PBG is 213 then the mainworld population is 2,000,000, and there is one planetary belt and 3 gas giants in the system.

Has most of the information, though not any details besides the names on the (Ex) and [Cx] stuff.

Legacy Codes going all the way back to CT/MT:
P = Population multiplier
B = # of Planetoid Belts (NOT including the Mainworld, if the Mainworld is an Asteroid Belt)
G = # of Gas Giants / Ice Giants

T5 Codes:
W = Worlds in System (Including Planetoid Belts and Gas Giants/Ice Giants, Excluding worldlets (<1000 miles dia) and satellites unless the Mainworld is a satellite of a Gas Giant or Big World)

{Ix} = Importance Extension ==>
{ Important: Ix ≥ +4 ; Very Important: Ix ≥ +5 }
{ Unimportant: Ix ≤ 0; Very Unimportant: Ix ≤ -2 }
(Ex) = Economic Extension = (RLI + E)
RU = Resource Units = R*L*I*E (If any value = 0, treat as =1)
  • R = Resources
  • L = Labour
  • I = Infrastructure
  • E = Efficiency

[Cx] = Cultural Extension = [ H A S S ]
  • H = Heterogeneity (level of social diversity) ==> [-5 to +5] + Pop
  • A = Acceptance (of outsiders/differences: xenophobia/xenophilia) ==> {Ix} + Pop
  • S = Strangeness (relative to Imperial norms) ==> [-5 to +5] + 5
  • S = Symbols ( Concrete to Abstract ) ==> [-5 to +5] + TL

Nobility = Social Standing (eHex) Values of the Imperial Landed (proper) Noble Peers assigned to represent the world before the Imperial Moot (and at the Sector and Subsector levels), and the Imperial Knight who represents the Imperium to the World.
  • It does NOT include Honour Nobles or Ceremonial/Rank (Administrator) Nobles who may reside on the world or hold positions in Imperial Ministries which happen to be housed on the world. It does NOT include Local or Planetary Nobility.

EDIT / NOTE: In T5:
[ FLUX ] = [1D6 - 1D6] = [-5 to +5], yielding a bell-curve distribution centered on "0" as mean/median values.

I had written an article I submitted to JTAS but wasn't picked up, probably due to being comically long, but it might help you get a sense for what some of those values mean.
I also wrote an article that wasn't picked up for JTAS (it was a small adventure). The feedback I got was "I am afraid it was not selected for JTAS this time around. We would be happy to take another rlook next time?"
