Traveller

Mongoose
I would really like to see a "polished" printing of Traveller.
not a new edition...
Let's try to replace those graphics with something that will inspire a game.

'nuff said?

i'm with you, we don't need another edition of traveller, i have 7 already  , but a nice reprint with better art would be nice. maybe leather bound and color artwork inside? if mongoose feels they must produce a new edition, why not a collector's edition of the current material

Heck... I kinda prefer line art.
Color is nice but ... I would rather buy something for 10 dollars less with great line art.

I don't care what new books are coming as long as they start putting all the tables in the books also in the back of the book so people can reference them easier.

I also prefer good line art like the classic Traveller books - really inspires you to play.

I would also like to see more fun stuff being done in the line of Signs&Portents no79's Zom-Bs and the classic Chamax Plague.

Seems that there is lots of mildly interesting sensible stuff being produced by Mongoose but little of any real imaginative fun. Lets not forget that fighting against overwhelming odds of creatures, exploring creepy spaceships, massive space monsters - these are all aspects missing out of the latest Traveller releases.

Sometimes we can be a bit too realistic in games and forget how to have a darned good time! Mongoose Traveller needs to start taking itself a little less seriously.

Odd, I thought the stock critique of Mongoose Traveller was that it had too much silly stuff "that doesn't fit My Traveller" or make realistic sense. Mongoose Traveller's nowhere near, oh GURPS Traveller's Far Trader, First In or Starports in terms of realism or detail so far. Can't win 'em all I suppose.

Looked at Reign of Discordia yet? It was free on PDF in the Haiti Aid Bundle, kinda a grittier slightly more up to date Star Frontiers (there have been threads on it here). And it has Star Frontiers type weapons too.

And for someone who derides the need for the 2000AD stuff, it's typically less serious and realistic than stock Traveller, being afterall based on UK comics.

One thing I would like to see more of is more in depth details of systems. For example, pages 98-101 how they tell about all the planets in the system instead of just main one. Not necessarily as much detail as they have in Reft Sector, but so many moons, so many planets and their UWP.

Three things I would love to see for MgT:

1) A star-system building book on the same level as DGP's World Builder's Handbook (formerly Grand Survey and Grand Census).

2) An all-in-one book system for designing ships and space habitats/stations that actually breaks down the various hull types as shown in past editions of Traveller.

3) A book on the level of Fire, Fusion, and Steel (which could effectively eclipse or include idea #2).

Barring that, a reprint/re-release of the DGP material on CD-ROM (yeah, I know it's wishful thinking  )...

Pax et bonum,

Dale

A World Builders Handbook is planned.
