The HUGE fuel requirements are a Traveller thing.

B5 probably has big jump engines and a little fuel, but Traveller has small engines and big fuel. the total volume probably works out the same.

Unless the "fuel" represents reaction mass, as Earth ships use fusion drives. Would certainly explain the tendency of B5 ships to go up like they're made of nitrocellulose when they take enough damage.

lets hope the other races who use more advanced tech (Centauri, Minbari, Shadows, Vorlons) are not flying giant fuel tanks as well.............

Compared to the level of detail in the old FASA star trek ship plans or the superb ship books of the Jovian book - the present plans are sadly a bit lacking in style and content.
