Traveller Release Schedule/New Books

So ... HOW early in May do I need to be ready to shell out money for Ships of the Frontier? ;)

May be a short while yet - we are still wrestling with some of the deck plans :)

Keeps refreshing for The Robot Handbook and the High Guard Update 2022 8) :D

Looking forward to Robots (as it's a new thing for this edition of Mongoose Traveller), though all the Mercenary goodies from the Kickstarter keep me busy enough for now!

ah man...
Robot got pushed to June and Highguard got pushed back to July!

We promise it will be worth it for both :)

I'm going to tell myself that the push back is for super extra reviewing and editing. As hesitant as I am, I'm ready to pre-order.

Oooh The Trailing Frontier book highlighted for release in October sounds interesting! I'm not sure whether that region has been tackled before? It will be really interesting to see how the K'kree are developed. :D

Matt,

The schedule on the first page and the one on the Mongoose website here:
https://www.mongoosepublishing.com/pages/releaseschedule

disagree on the release date for 2300AD Ships of the Frontier. First says May. Second says June.

I'm totally NOT asking when it's coming out but I cannot PM you so I thought this was the place to bring it to your attention!

v/r
Andy

PS Not at ALL asking when it's coming out. Nope.
PPS Not even a little bit.

One of those is correct - a bit of hedge betting there :)

I am _hoping_ it will come out on Friday... it may roll into next week slightly as we polish off the last of the art. So, 50/50 chance of May or June. But it is very close.

Does this have rules for starting your own colony?

No, those rules grew in size and so will be getting their own book!

Will this be an updated version of the TNE: World Tamers Handbook? I would love to see a version of the that is compatible with UWP and the MgT2 ruleset.

Matthew is letting me work on a new World Builder's Handbook as my current project. I'm still working on system generation and the physical characteristics part of the UWP, but I do intend to do some things around economics when I get to the population-government-law level-tech level-starport part that could set the stage for World Tamers and Pocket Empires stuff, but nothing like the colony events and such to support a colony project as a campaign. Just greater detail on what a world looks like at a point in time - enough to figure out how big a world or nation state's shipyard or military budget would be, but not what you do with it going forward.

Geir- Here is My rework of the UWP system. Let Me know what you think. It allows for a more detailed UWP

and here is My Starport rework... It lets you know the amount of available Dtons of trade per set time period. From this you could use a simple revenue of 1,000Cr/ton of cargo to determine total planetary budget, then simply decide what % of the Planetary budget is allocated to the Fleet, both for construction of new ships and maintenance on existing ships. Just count any TL modifier of <0 as 0 and the formula works.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks.
On the UWP, one of the limitations and challenges of creating new material is the weight of 45 years of canon. Obviously, canon can change - that's the 'miracle of retconning' - but there has to be a pretty big reason to do so. Messing the existing UWP definitions needs to have a really big reason. Mostly I've added detail, for instance on atmospheres: how to calculate oxygen partial pressure, atmosphere scale height, and tables for not only types but also persistence of taint. But all of that comes with the requirement that it's additional information that can be added on without altering the underlying UWP values. In T5 Marc Miller makes a point of emphasizing Map Only As Really Necessary or MOARN, meaning you can drill down into excruciating detail, but only if you have or want to do so. The bigger picture should still be the same as it was without the extra rules and the extra rules have to work when they are only applied as necessary. I'm still sneaking in a couple of extra Atmosphere classes at the upper extreme, but they might get edited out.

For the starport section, it's too early for me to have a deep look at it. I will try to take into account everything from Trillion Credit Squadron to World Tamers to Pocket Empires to Far Trader, but in the end, the capabilities and capacity of starports has to at least be compatible to the tables in the Core Book and High Guard.

And I don't want to hijack this thread, so I'll start a new topic on World Builders for anyone with suggestions or strong opinions...

Best news I have had all day, Geir. I really like worldbuilding and would like my campaign to be compatible with the mainstream existing ruleset. Can we expect it by the end of May? I suppose I can wait until Origins
