Traveller - Not in space

I was just wondering if there are/have been/will be any conversion rules, be they official or not, for using Traveller in non science fiction settings.

The main reason I love Traveller is the way it can be perfectly applied to low tech worlds, I have always found the low tech weapons like swords and cutlasses to be the best! You could easily design a low tech campaign on one or two worlds using the basic rules and some film guidance for inspiration (like Firefly/original Star Wars' Tatooine/Westworld/Waterworld etc mixed with the Scoundrels book for pirates, Equipment Catalogue for old weapons, and the Vehicle design book for old sea craft.

Oh I knowI certainly could! I'm possibly going to have some fun in my next few sessions of my current game with the group getting embroiled in something on a low tech world just to play with that sort of thing.

What I'm really looking for, in all honesty, is the ship construction and combat rules applied to tallships, rather than using the generic vehicle rules. I and my players both really love how the ship combat flows and that, unlike other sytems of that sort we've seen, how everyone has something to do... even if I did do a quick on the fly houserule allowing the Engineer to roll Engineer (M-drive) to give half effect in extra thrust for manoeuvres :D

Hmm....

Looking at the Vehicle design rules for a ship.

The problem (or not) with a proper pirate ship is that you don't want to be rolling attack rolls for a twenty-gun broadside of 9lb cannons (which is the most appropriate thing I can see to arm them with).

Might I suggest adapting the barrage rules for capital ship combat - so a 2D6 roll plus the cannon's damage dice (9), minus the target's armour (2-3 layers of wood, one assumes), minus range, plus the skill of the crew, etc.

The one issue is that you should be allowed to aim specifically for rigging or hull, and the rigging should have significantly less armour.

I'm not entirely confident with vehicle design rules - has anyone used them to make a tall ship?
