Traveller Miniatures

Mongoose
I would love to buy some Traveller minis. Not minis that are "close enough", but some actually licenced Traveller Miniatures. I wonder if Mongoose has thought about releasing some.

Right now I could use a Squad of Marines in Battle Dress. Some PCs in Naval Uniforms could be cool too.

Am I the only one who would buy them. What does everyone think. :D

I suspect that the license for Traveller miniatures is currently still held by
someone else, so Mongoose could be unable to produce any such minia-
tures. But this license has been very hard to track over the years, so I
may well be wrong.

Well if you take a looky see at the RAFM 15mm SciFi range. They look somewhat* like the original 15mm Traveller Range that Citadel brought out many many moons ago....

Wonder what the story is there... surely its all legit or the men with the bolt croppers would be at the door!

*well the 'same' unless I'm halucinating from too many Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters...

But yes an offical 15mm or even 28mm range would be nice. I particular liked Grenadiers Imperial Marines.

Yeah, I should have picked up a set of those Grenadier Traveller minis when I could. Unfortunatly, I was young and semi poor at the time.

I have a full set of the SJ Games 15mm Cardboard Heroes, and somewhere I have a couple of blisters of the Original Martian Metals 15mm Traveller figs.

What I would love is a set of 25mm -32 mm (25mm is better though) of Figs for Traveller.

Check out Reaper Minis, their chrononauts line is pretty good for the Spacers & Space marines

Yes I am aware of the line, and they do have some minis that fit for Generic Travellers. I am a bit OCD about my minis, and for me having the correct minis with correct weapons (ie Imp Gauss weapons, Imp ACRs, etc), and correct looking armor make a huge difference.

is also a great source for Sci Fi minis.

I appreciate the links, but I was mostly expressing my desire to see someone create a line of licenced Traveller minis. Perhaps, a partnership with Reaper (AKA Hobby Q) to produce them. There's a ton of Traveller based games that would work for minis (ie Striker).

Ok beside all of that. Anyone have a good source of non GW minis that resemble Imperial Marines in Battle Dress?

If you can accomodate yourself to a true 25mm figure, Ground Zero Games (GZG) UN troops are basically Imperial Marines in battledress.

Also, GZG makes them in 15s as well. Over the years, I have converted most of my Traveller minis to 15s since the scale just seems to fit better for Traveller.

Grenadier was the last to make licensed Imperial Marines - probably 20+ years ago (maybe longer). As I recall, they were true 25mm scale as well.

I have been using GZG for most all my Traveller needs (including 2300) for at least 10-12 years.

The closest I've found would have to be in 15mm.

Critical Mass Games and Khurisan Miniatures have minis that would do well for Vargr and Aslan, etc.

15mm sci fi is really taking off. Lots to choose from. GZG, Rebel Miniatures, Critical Mass Games, Khurisan Miniatures, The Scene.

Agreed. 15mm offers many excellent options today - not just military figures but civilian as well. Probably fitting since Traveller mini's roots were 15mm back in the day.

The only thing I wish is that someone would come out with the ubiquitous open top 4-6 man grav vehicle that every free trader and scout ship tended to carry - a must for player characters. I know they are made as paper vehicles but I would love to have it in lead or resin (in 15 and/or 25mm)

Mega Minis put out a line of licensed 25s just a few years back. They were limited runs however and I don't think many if any are still available. They didn't have any marines that I remember. I did get some Dryone (sp?) and some Vargar.

To be real honest I am bias towards 15mm.

I would love a line of "Official" Traveller figures. A complete line. Then has never been one.

If I where to start producing them I would start with a pack of Hivers, then the rest. There has only been one Hiver figure ever produced, that was by RAFM for TNE. Not a bad figure, just rare, it's harder to find than Grenadier's Imperial Marines.

As I said my preference is 15mm. This is partially all the old Large lines of Traveller figures where in 15mm. Vehicles don't cost an arm and a leg in 15mm. And ranges in running gunfights aren't ridiculously short. i.e. vehicles don't look clownish on the table.

As mentioned before most of the Citadel/Rafm 15mm figures are available. Ground Zero Games' 15mm figures match well with them. GZG's UNSC Hardsuits are Imperial Marines. And they also make several packs of Vaccsuited figures. Not to mention their vehicles, a very nice Air/raft, as well as several flavors of Grav Armor. I would use the Advanced Grav series of armor as Imperial Marines, and the Grav Sleds as Sword Worlds.

But if I where going to choose another size 25mm would be it. The size of the Grenadier figures. The reasoning is that with 15mm. 20mm bases are viable.

That is my 2cents on the subject.

The GZG 25mm are kind of blocky and ugly, and I don't really care for 15mm.

http://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/28mmscifi.html

They have some nice looking figs that I can buy as Imp Marines. Though honestly, they have a bit of the Warhammer 40k Look.

Also found http://www.criticalmassgames.com/default.asp?category=arcfleet which would be perfect if they were 25/32mm instead of 15mm.

Anyways I ordered the stuff from Khurasan minis.

Martian metals had a pretty complete set of licenced Traveller 15mm minis. They were a bit primitive, but most minis were in those days. I still have a ton of the citizens and adventurer sets. I remember the local hobby shops having quite a collection of those back in the day.

Perhaps Mongoose will see the value in marketing these. Perhaps even in both 25mm and 15mm. 15mm would be the choice if they decided to release a miniatures ruleset like Striker. 25mm for us RPers :D

Pretty much state of the art for when they where sculpted. Size is more what I was talking about.

Frankly that is the case with most of the so called 28mm figures in Science Fiction. It is getting better, when I made my choice to chose a scale I chose for a lot of reasons other than just specific look. And to be honest there are days when I think Lego might be the ideal solution.

Size was one of the big issues, a scout boat in 15mm is large, in 28mm it is huge 35 some odd inches in 1.5m/5ft to the inch.

If it is the mercenaries packs does a simular set in 28mm.

I prefer Ground Zero Games and RAFM's figure to the Marian Metal, to very honest they are some Fugly figures, but they did more than a fair number of K'kree.

To be honest the figures I would like to get my hands on from in the day are the Hobby Products Traveller License 15mm, very simular to their later Space Lords line but in 15mm.

Mongoose has stated in this forum, if they do figures they will be in 28mm

I am not against 28mm, nor the people who prefer them to 15mm, I just have a strong preference. There is also the fact I am a Miniatures wargamer as well as a role player. So it is more than a hand full of figures and we are golden sorta deal with me. And it is the vehicle question that normally gets me, 28mm is just too damn large for more than a single vehicle on your average table.

I would be all over this if they made them. Some of the Star Wars Minis skirmish games with variable win conditions would make excellent Traveller tabletop adventures, and the d6 system of MGT keeps combat simple and streamlined. Given the way gaming is going, it would also help with getting new players into the system.

I also want to see Traveller ships for ACTA. Streamlined tabletop space combat would make me SO happy.

I am hoping they do something along the lines of a Traveller skin for Battlefield Evolution. Something that had been beaten one and made to fit several genres already.

For all of it's lovely crunchiness CT's Striker is beyond most gamers, in that it is one of the shining examples of old style wargame/miniatures gaming design.

And Striker2 was a port of Command Decision to TNE, still not a bad thing.

Just in this day and age, more streamlined play is expected. I mean look at the evolution of 40k. Every time those rules get rewritten they drop detail and streamline. Or actually get rewritten to match the current design staff's play style. (Note, in a weird way 40k starts with Traveller, Laserburn (40k alpha) was written in to support miniatures roleplaying, which CT only kinda did.)

But I digress, the real question is what are you going to do with Miniatures?

Or

What Miniatures do you feel your Gaming needs?

I really love Ground Zero Games' 15mm line! The UNSC have already been mentioned for Imperial marines. They have several packs of civilians. They pretty much are my human miniatures for Traveller.

I think this company would be a good choice to work with for an official Traveller line. Many gamers like their work, and they have experience working in both 15mm and 25mm scales.

I am curious about some of the other lines that were mentioned, such as Rebel, Khurasan and Critical Mass. What size are their 15mm scale figures? Do they fit in well with GZG miniatures? Or are they larger, like the growing 18mm lines?

Rebel, Khurastan, Critical Mass and GZGs all generally work together.

All subscribe to the 15mm to eye level.

The variation is in individual packs by individual sculptors. Older figures tend to be chunkier than newer sculpts. But it is all within individual variation.

As for licensing, Lets just say GZGs is still catching up with Christmas/beginning of the year orders. So he might consider it, if his current business slacks off.

I would love to see a 15mm production run of Traveller specific Aliens. Specific human not so much, as there are butt-loads of human troops in existing lines. Not that a full line wouldn't be nice.

Does anyone know why the Mega Miniatures Traveller runs were limited. I thought they were pretty good. Also if you're doing 25/28 for your Traveller games they have some nice figures that would work well.
