Traveller miniatures, starships/characters...

Mega Minatures has a licence to do Traveller minatures - both characters and starships and characters.

I've seen both their characters and starships - they are very good. They tend to sell quite a few limited edition sets on ebay. I've seen their Bawb set up close and the detail of the fiqures was amazing. Their Vargrs were equally stunning.

They had the license; there haven’t been any new miniatures from them in some time, and what one’s they had left where melted down. The Bawps where the last.

The 3 ships Mega Miniatures were doing have been taken over by Ad Astra Games:

But those are no longer in stock.

I beleive Mega blew it with their ships - they should have stuck to the same scale that RAFM used to use, which would have resulted in smaller, less expensive miniatures that were compatible with existing Traveller ship minis. Their larger ships were very nice, but since they only managed to release three ships, I'd say they didn't sell very well - my guess is that most people didn't buy them for the same reasons I didn't - they weren't compatible with my existing collection, and they were expensive for a single starship miniature.

I got the K'Kree, Droyne and Newts, somehow I missed the Vargr. They're decent minis, but not up to the standards of Reaper or some of the other top quality producers. They're more than adequate with a decent paintjob in my opinion. What drove me nuts about them was the limited supply thing. I think they could still be selling them if they'd have continued production.

I want minis as well, 25mm should work fine. Dont know about some people but i do NOT have the time to kit-bash minis to get what I want, so for anyone who can do something about this issue let me speak plainly; We want minis and failing that how about some high quality paper minis? My players tend to be rather visual in their approach and having minis would help them (and me) out a lot during combat.

P.S. plastic minis could work ok too.

Steve Jackson Games had an official Traveller line of Cardboard Heroes back in the day... can't check this at work, but it is possible these are still available on Warehouse 23. I still have mine - Imperial troops, Zhodani troops and Adventurers (I think there were other sets, too).
