Lets face it all the good ideas from T5 are going to get house ruled into Mongoose games and good ideas from Mongoose rules will be house rulled into T5 games.
Though MGT and T5 have diverged (and this was evident almost from the start of MGT, and it was bound to happen, and really it was the only way to get it done!), they are both still true to their roots: MGT is a re-statement and improvement on Classic Traveller, and T5 is an evolution of Classic Traveller.
The task mechanic is not the important element in portability: rather, it's the nouns that are important.
Some exploration has been done into porting characters, equipment, and starships between the two systems. I am confident that reasonable guidelines could be produced; house rules already exist.
I never liked Gurps myself and being a DieHard Traveller collector, I never ought any of that stuff. That says alot for me, because I buy EVERYTHING...but I did not buy THAT stuff.
You missed the best Trav material produced. I own everything else since I started buying in '78. I never played GURPS (well maybe one game ~'82?) but after leafing through it I had to buy their Trav material.
I agree with this. While I have never liked the Gurps SYSTEM, I own nearly all of the Gurps Traveller books for their fluff. Some of the most detailed Traveller fluff out there.
One thing that's sad is... there is confusion over what's canon vs just licensed ATU vs what is compatible with what.. and Marc evidently will never come out and say "X is how things are".

Well they met their $24,000 goal and racked in a whopping $294,000 to boot, so where is T5, I have not heard a peep from them since they hit the kickstarter mark goals. Maybe Mark decided to forget T5 and pocket the cash and head off for Argentina.
