Yes, perhapse I'm naive...but I still wonder what kind of thrill an hacker would find in hijackin' a fansite where no one makes profits and where the community doesn't break anyone's balls.

Probably the same thrill that people get by doing street racing: totally illegal, dangerous for bystanders (we got an example of that a few weeks ago) and no real prize in the end except that they can brag about it. :roll: Anyways, we are going off-topic... The fact is that I don't think TotS was hacked this time. It's something related to some bug in the DB.

The files should still be there (as in all the goodies we made and uploaded). I've not logged onto the server in a while, but the fact everyone's avatars and signature bars still show up leads me to believe the site has just been taken offline until it can be re-coded.

The forums are the only thing we now for certain that they broke, aren't they? (At least every topic posted to after a certain day were broken, which means the forum database was broken.)

The wiki, profiles, lottery, market I could all access with no problems.

Not to be gloomy, but I think it is safe to say that unless WH can pull off a miracle, the forums are unrecoverable.

WH seems to be saying the forum isn't recoverable, and is buildign a new site from scratch right now

Anyone able to reach WH via IM or anything? I have his email and can hit him up on myspace anytime, but I know he gets tired of me bugging him. Maybe if someone else bugged him...en masse...ad infinitum.

Oh, WH has been poking his head out with occasional messages - he passed me a quick message recently too, and has replied briefly to Simey.

He mentioned new work, so it's not that he isn't doing anything, it's just he is having to rebuild the database around his new work. But he is rebuilding, and has mentioned the need for the encyclopaedias to be repopulated.

I guess the downloads will need relinked too, and of course we'll have to have all the old discussions again on the new forum!

The important thing is that this time the Tower fell but there are a lot of survivors and not just only one, so we'll be stronger than ever.
Whoever can contact, please support WH, we're all struggling with him and wish him the best, and most of all, thanks for what he has done until now and what he will do.
