Those crazy deckplans

GypsyComet

Emperor Mongoose
While the most recent lamenting and the announcement of a fix of the deckplans seems to have been a victim of the crash two weeks ago, I'm wondering if there is any interest in getting use out of the deckplans we DO have.

Since they were apparently done at 1 grid per ton instead of 2, they are all pretty small. BUT the array of provided ships suggests some solutions.

First, the easy one: The Type R plans are one stateroom off from being a good match to the Type A stats. Make one stateroom into a Purser's Office or kitchen and viola, a new set of plans for the Type A. The amount of space dedicated to staterooms is about right, so no walls need to be moved.

(edit: looks like *all* of my previous posts were lost as well, not that there were very many. Ah well, they say starting over occasionally is a good thing...)

Free Scout (Type SA)

First run-through:

Hull 100 tons Streamlined
Hull 2, Struc 2
(100 tons) MCr2.2
J-Drive: A (J2) 10 tons MCr10
M-Drive: A (M2) 2 tons MCr4
P-Plant: A 4 tons MCr8
Fuel - Jump 20 tons -
Fuel - Power (4 weeks) 4 tons -
Bridge 10 tons MCr0.5
Computer 1/bis - MCr0.045
Civilian Sensors 1 ton MCr0.05
Staterooms (5) 20 tons MCr2.5
Cargo Hold 46 tons -
Scoops - MCr1
Fuel Proc 1 ton MCr0.05
Spare 2 tons -
(Fire control upgrade, etc.)

120 tons MCr28.395

Hmm. This one is obviously handicapped by the absence of the J1M1 option for 100-ton hulls.

If we assume for the sake of argument that these exist and are smaller than the ‘A’ drives by a bit, then adjust the jump fuel and round down the cargo to 40 tons, we are close enough:

Hull 100 tons Streamlined
Hull 2, Struc 2 (100 tons) MCr2.2
J-Drive: A- (J1) 6.5 tons MCr8
M-Drive: A- (M1) 1.5 tons MCr3
P-Plant: A 4 tons MCr8
Fuel - Jump 10 tons -
Fuel - Power (4 weeks) 4 tons -
Bridge 10 tons MCr0.5
Computer 1/bis - MCr0.045
Civilian Sensors 1 ton MCr0.05
Staterooms (5) 20 tons MCr2.5
Cargo Hold 40 tons -
Scoops - MCr1
Fuel Proc 1 ton MCr0.05
Spare 2 tons -
Fire control upgrade, etc.

100 tons MCr25.395

To do the final fitting of this to the original Type A deckplan, we assume that all staterooms are configured for double occupancy, and that the areas labeled for Cold Berths are Engineering space and/or fuel. Assuming a little slope in the walls of the cargo bay covers the slight decrease in tonnage.

While not strictly within the construction rules, this gives a useful stat set to the Type A plans.

My "re-gridding" thread became largely unneeded once Mongoose announced that they had revised plans in hand.

The "Far Scout" looks a lot like the "Free Scout":

Hull 100 tons Streamlined
Hull 2, Struc 2 (100 tons) MCr2.2
J-Drive: A (J2) 10 tons MCr10
M-Drive: A- (M1) 1.5 tons MCr3
P-Plant: A 4 tons MCr8
Fuel - Jump 20 tons -
Fuel - Power (4 weeks) 4 tons -
Bridge 10 tons MCr0.5
Computer 1/bis - MCr0.045
Civilian Sensors 1 ton MCr0.05
Staterooms (4) 16 tons MCr2.0
Cargo Hold 30 tons -
Scoops - MCr1
Fuel Proc 1 ton MCr0.05
Spare 2.5 tons -
(Fire control upgrade, etc.)

100 tons MCr26.895

With J2 installed, the fuel requirement goes up. The deckplans have two fewer staterooms and a smaller cargo area, however, so it balances out. The deckplan in this case is closer to 115 tons, so a bit of variance is to be expected.

One thing we can't account for is the second turret, but since a single turret on the side is a bit odd, those have to come off anyway. Assume the single turret is either on top or underneath.

Actually, it is a architectural/Marketing feature. You can have the turret on either side, and both are shown in this display model. Simply select your desired location and ignore the other.

I’m not sure this hull will work as presented, but there you go.

The stateroom number is based on total dedicated tonnage instead of pesky things like walls.

I didn’t step the subcraft down all the way to Launch because it’s going to take the Ship’s Boat long enough to refuel this thing already...

Don't sweat it, Gerzel. You *are* posting actual useful content, and that is what counts. To be really creative, however, you'll need deckplans. Any ideas?

This one does not work as smoothly as the others, but it’ll get the job done.

Next up, the Not-so-Heavy Freighter.

I'm also looking at MGT stats for some other long forgotten and/or neglected deckplans. The old WEG D6 Star Wars Stock Ships book among others.

500 tons MCr121.93

This fits the “standard deck height” assumption fairly well. This set of deckplans would be the easiest to add volume to by simply doubling the height of the main cargo deck.

I’ve also assumed the fuel deck is half height, since the design just doesn’t need to be able to jump twice on a full tank. The missing volume was added to the Cargo on the assumption that cargo capacity can be converted to fuel capacity if necessary, but the reverse is not true.

The Yacht plans are about 115 tons and have the same problem the "Free Scout" does, in that the drives and fuel fit a J1 M1 design, but the rules do not have that option. I'll do a bit of interpolation of hull stats and post the "best guess" by Friday.

(Which Friday? That would be telling.)

I'll be skipping the Cruiser for the time being, as well, so the next (and last) will be the Corsair. Remarkably silly-looking if you ask me, but the Corsair has always been one of Traveller's oddities.

The remaining shrunken deckplans map below 100 tons, which means no design guidelines under MGT (so far). Treating the Scout, Seeker, and Serpent as Cutter variants should work for now, and serendipitously provides a bit more Small Craft variation than Traveller normally gets. The actual Small Craft deckplans are also problematic, in that several of the standards are not twice the size of another standard.
