On a side-related note... just how powerful are the new anti-ship fighters (including the thoruntorpedo)? Just a slight improvement over the standard fighter or a cruiser's nemesis?

They do have heavier weapon systems, but their primary advantage is their immunity (if used correctly) to A-F fire. They also have advantages in Planetary Assault. Any fighters can attack ships, as ever, these are simply better at it - but as a balancing factor, you get fewer flights, and they tend to be poor Dogfighters. The actual weapon systems haven't changed much.
I've always found it odd that getting fewer flights is a balance factor when you can swap them one for one. I don't have the books in front of me to check whether you can in effect 'buy advantage' by swapping for fighters that are better than standard currently.

In some cases you can get an advantage, but this is quite rare and not much of an advantage (eg. getting a fighter that is 3 pe wing instead of 4). To upgrade to Firebolts or Rutarians, you have to pay extra (1 Patrol per 4 flights upgraded I think?)
And the REALLY heavy stuff like Rivas and Sky Serpents can't be swapped out like normal fighters, having to be bought seperately unless a particular ship carries them as standard.
