Thinking of starting the EA, but....

Ok, I play Minbari currently, and I was thinking of starting playing EA sometime soon....but what is the point of playing any era other than Crusade? Whats the benefit of having a Early force? I've looked at all the stats, and it seems that EA ships are pretty weak at Early, decent at 3rd Age, and are on an actual competitive level with other fleets at Crusade....so why would I bother playing with ships from other Eras?

they do offer differant things at differant ages.

early age for example has lots of plasma weaponry, plus a skirmish level missile boat.
both early and 3rd have the nova, plus avenger at raid level whereas the crusade have to wait until war PL before getting their 1st carrier.
just depends on playing style and ship model preference. me i will be starting a 3rd age fleet soon as i like the warlock and omegas, but i also like novas and avengers.

Well, if your group is prone to using various In Service dates, then 3rd Age would be the best bet, cos most of those ships can be used in the other eras (either Early or Crusade, though usually not both).

I'd only play Third Age. It has the iconic ships from the series, even the Warlock-class seen in Crusade, a good range of fighters to pick from, the Aurora, Badger and Thunderbolt.

Personally I hate the Crusade era fleet with the God-awful Marathon class, and the Early era has nothing I want. Third Age is the way to go for EA. 8)

DJ, you're right that the Crusade ships are the most powerful but on a Priority Level (points) basis, each fleet is roughly equal in power per point. After this, it only comes down to what ships you would prefer to play with.

Hi,
couldn't agree more.

marathon is a fine ship. plus crusade also has the chronos and the excalibur. as well as myrmidons which have great firepower for patrol ships.

hey,

I'm actually playing EW and so far have only played two games with them. I've been rather impressed. I do believe Early EA is very fragile- even with the amount of ships you get over other races due to the relatively low level (still playing 1ed btw). I mean Raid and Skirmish level form the core of EA fleets from what I've seen compared to Battle and Raid for most other fleets.

I actually ended up buying the 1st Phase and 3rd Phase old fleet boxes. Gave me far more ships then I'd ever use and allows me to play both phases very well.

yeh....but the model for the myrmidons is....how i can say it in an friendly sound?....not really EA like.

true, i would probably use the new patrol boat for it.

that is an really nice idea.
the new patrol boat ( i like the design ) is an fine replace for all who don´t like the design of the myrmidon.
on the other side...i can use my boreas cutter to fill that gap. the only problem is..., it is an little bit to big for an patrol ship.

Hmm, I could just get the 3rd Age box and if I wanted to play Crusade, I could just add on accordingly...

Pretty much, that box plus a Warlock, Marathon or whatever Crusade ships you like should do pretty well. Course if you felt like blowing alot of cash you -could- get both boxes.

If your going to do the EA fleets seriously, you should look at both or all three of the fleet boxes, there's enough cross over from most of them to assist whichever fleet your starting with.

And the ships that don't cross over, either look at trading with other gamers or it's the start of a second fleet for you.
