The Sword Worlds 1105

According to my old Supplement 3, the Imperial X-boat-line that connects the Five Sisters to the rest of the (Imperial) Spinward Marches runs through Biter, a system belonging to the Sword Worlds! Could someone explain this oddity to me?
Another thing: On which side did the Sword Worlds fight in the 4th Frontier War? I know they will join the Vilani in the 5th, so they might not be that friendly towards the Imperium in the year 1105.
So, what's the deal with the Sword Worlds?

Is that "oddity" in the MGT Spinward Marches book too?
And I guess you mean Zhodani, not vilani...

I'm at work but this article says yes:

I'm sure they're very unfriendly with the Imperium and a 'cold war' exists in 1105. But Biter might have a more 'pro-Imperial' slant in its government than the majority of the Sword Worlds ,considering that they broke off with 3 others after the 5th Frontier War to form a pro Imperial state.

Does Hans post here? I think he's extemely knowledgeable on the Sword Worlds.

According to Hans's 'Sword Worlds' supplement for GURPS, the Sword Worlds took advantage of the Fourth Frontier War to attack the Darrians and seize the Entropic Worlds.

Biter is something of an unusual Sword world, in that it was the victim of a genocide about 600 years ago (in an internal SW civil war) which killed or deported 95% of the population, and left the rest struggling with radioactive and biological contamination in the air and soil. After the Fifth Frontier War the world was enthusiastic about joining the Imperium because of the aid that would become available. I hypothesise that they may have allowed an x-boat station earlier for similar reasons - Imperial payment to lease starport space forming a major part of their world's income.

Thats how I would read it as well.

For a very large (to them) stipend, they allow the Xboats and other J4 Imperial civil craft to go through.

Err think of it like the American base on Cuba as a IRL example.

Take care

The Project Steel adventure series (released, uh, soon) takes a look at the Biter Xboat link oddity.

Yeah, that's where mine's centered as well. I was about to send them into the belly of the Sword Worlds with a supply run to Biter. Now I'm not so sure ...
