Hey All,

So for me the Classic era Imperium (1105) is defined not so much by what it is, but what it is on the verge of experiencing.

Two events loom on the horizon: The Fifth Frontier War and the Rebellion

Are any of you foreshadowing or setting up these events in your current campaigns, and if so how?[/i]

No. I never played Traveller before so I am having the characters play a major force in what transpires in the future.

My next campaign is going to be set in 1248... That is, after these events.

Guys since Mongoose Traveller is starting in 1105, whom is to say anything that any other Traveller era did will happen at all?

You assume it will but if Mongoose has the license for the next 10yrs and that takes them from 1105 to 1115...who says that they will follow any other Traveller era timeline. Maybe the whole Rebellion will fail and Stephen will discover the plot and stop it in it's tracks. Plus this whole Computer Vampire Virus crap will never happen at all. There are plenty of possibilities here folks, and if Mongoose has the license they can write the future in anyway that they seem works for them. I for one being a 30+ yr player of Traveller, would like to see the future "changed".

Mongoose said they are considering releasing sourcebooks for those future periods.

FFW? Possibly, but it's a long way from where I prefer to play (Soli Rim).

Rebellion? Nope, not in MTU. I'll go with the GURPS vision this time around.

I really like the 1248 setting. Any game I GM using the OTU will be in that milieu.

In my campaign, the FW5 still happens, but Strephon doesn't get assassinated, per the GURPS Traveller setting. The Rebellion occurs in a parallel universe IMTU. :wink:

Should I have a game last long enough I'd certainly include the Fifth Frontier War. The Rebellion however I would probably leave up to the players: I'd throw them a scenario where they discover evidence of Dulinors plans and give them a choice over whether to side with Dulinor and keep silent, or pass it to the right people to see him thwarted. (ala GURPS Traveller, wherein Dulinor was killed in a shuttle explosion an hour before he was due to assassinate Strephon)

I would expect that Mongoose will not be altering the primary time line. Too much history (literally and figuratively). I hope they release Milieu books for the other major eras of the OTU, but I don't think they are going to advance the timeline the way GDW did back in the 80s.

I could see a 5FW setting book, a Rebellion setting book, a 1201 setting book etc. They might all be set in the Spinward Marches as well...

I'd be all over a 5FW source. I'm sticking with SM and the run up to the 5FW. Hopefully a source like that will be available before the guns start firing in earnest.
