The Return?

Noble Armada would be a pretty good replacement. I really like the Decados and Imperial/Hawkwood ships. The others I could take or leave, but it's still something established to be built upon.

As we get ships sculpted more like the Crusade EA and Gaim, and less like Drakh, G'vrahn, and Everything Armageddon level, I'll be a happy camper.

It'll be the miniatures that make/break it for me. Nice molds of ships and I'll try it out, maybe try to get a few others playing. If there's disappointing miniatures, I'll probably just use my old minis as proxies if someone else buys the books at the LGS and is trying to get others involved.

As I read the description of the new A Call to Arms game Noble Armada definitely came to my mind. It had some really nice mins especially the Decados. I wouldn't mind seeing an expansion of the other fleets.

"on it" with playtesting.... any chance of having a decent number of playtesters instead of the 2 remaining "5 good men"?

Triggy and Greg are fine, but a few more eyes would surely be helpful.

Hiff I do not think playtesting has been subbed out as of yet to outsiders.

As far as we know in Greg's Crew, Greg hasn't said anything about new playtesting for ACTA. Unless he is keeping stum about it at the moment.

Noble Armada is a good game. It would work well in ACTA. Myself and Greg did toy with a ACTA Fading Suns rules set. It worked well and translated well.

The mini's were great, even the plastic ones you get in the set. I am still trying to find the metal minis. Though in the Fading Suns fluff all Human House Fleets can have other House ships in their fleets due to Prize Ships :D. So it would make interesting fleet mixes.

Just making a point. Not aware at all of which specific bit of testing the game is.on, but for a new year release, definitely need to crack on.

Triggy and Greg are, at the moment, not involved... However, yes, there are more playtesters involved.

We do have a few more spaces available though. If anyone is interested in playtesting, drop me a line at msprange@mongoosepublishing.com. We'll have to insist you only do this if you _and_ your group can dedicate a decent amount of time to play lots of games - just reading through is not good enough. We already have volunteers to do that!

Can't guarantee that everyone will be accepted, and we'll devise some fair/random method for choosing who comes on board, so if your email seems to disappear into the wilderness, apologies in advance.

The datacards and deck plans are integrated into one (at the moment, 3" x 5") design - you are going to have a little pile of them anyway, rather than keeping a book open to check stats. Oh, and they are washable, so you can mark off damage and such like as you play. Your choice whether you do that or use scrap paper.

Much nicer to do ship sheets than scrap paper - the way that so many people (Burger especially) stepped up and produced printable ship/fleet reference sheets was a great bonus for ACTA. Printed and laminated they made a superb resource.

3" x 5" sounds good, if you can stick to that. That's a nice, convenient size without getting ridiculously small, and (assuming that the same sort of numbers of ships are involved), the space I'd use for a sheet of A4 is sufficient to nicely lay out about half-a-dozen reference cards, which will cover most of the fleet.

Would love to be involved, however will need to go and prod assorted minions with a large pointed stick first.

I'm going with Noddy. I don't think there's been a space-based mini game based on that yet? I'm really looking forward to getting a Big Ears fleet!

You are a very odd person at times.
Never know, might be 'Normandy' and be Mass Effect after all - would explain the re-emphasis on boarding actions..

I was thinking the same thing & also when Matt said about most races having the same tech ie Mass effect tech

ideas from what i remember of the codex in Mass effect 1.
I automatically thought of Mass effect for ACTA especially with the big Mass Effect guns
Lasers are short ranged but ignore barriers
Fighters have torps

Earth= Fighters, Reinforcements due to their doctirine of small garrison & jump from main relays
Asari= Elite big ships
Turian= Lots of ships, maybe good cruisers
Salarian=Ambush, maybe stealth
Geth= Good Barriers

Wait and see, I guess.

Looking forwards to it, either way. ACTA has the advantage that all relatively long-lived games have; it' will have been through two big re-workings and three more smaller ones, so what was a nice enough ruleset to start with gets polished 'till it gleams.

Just read up on Matt's blog on planet mongoose - definitely think its stargate.

Lots of ships with a similar technological bases (sounds like system lords to me!), stacks of boarding actions (replicators, SG-1 etc) and some dodgy ships available from canada - which would be easy to buy and paint up

Of course, if I am wrong I will feel like a complete tit now!

But a lovely one you'd be. :)

Personally, I would hope it's something....different. Please let it be a Halo space game....fleet action level. That hasn't been done yet.

I didn't see anything in Matts blog post about dodgy ships from Canada, and i seem to remember him saying that no one at Mongoose really had a great love for Stargate, so they were not looking to produce it in any form.

I may be mistaken, but my bet is on a video game based setting, as it is really the only thing that comes to mind as plausible to have more then once faction available, even if they don't have the number of ships as B-5.

Maybe they got the rights from Amarillo to do a StarFleet Battles ACTA adaption.

Certainly a crap load of fleets available to choose from.

Matt's already ruled out the Star Trek universe I think.

With a smaller number of ship choices and expanded detail on boarding actions it could be Battlestar Galactica. Or possibly Firefly/Serenity.

Halo would be nice. Humans, Covenant, Heretics and Flood. But I don't really think there's much variety of ships seen on-screen. It would be more suited to a BF Evo adaptation, with Warthogs, Ghosts, etc. There just isn't that much info on the larger ships, which CTA would focus on.
