Hmmm, I wonder what an Anti-matter Particle Accelerator would look like in Traveller? Another attempt at planet killing would be akin to the way we try to initiate fusion reactions, many very large ships packed with the largest spinal lasers to compress the surface of a world to the fusion point.
Then again, what power in any galaxy wants and can afford a literal Scorched Earth policy?

If more advanced they could just lace the atmosphere with nanotechnology to clear it up and remove any "unnecessary" life forms beyond a certain level really why blow up or otherwise destroy a planet when its unnecessary and to be blunt pointless?
Could they generate seismic waves to destabilize the planet's surface either propel the moon into the Earth or just accelerate it so it can escape earth orbit neither has to destroy the planet both would be nasty to the inhabitants.

If Chaos has infected a planet and it's populace, it might be kinder to just kill them all and wipe out all life on the surface.
