Which is sort of a Koshism to say I'm beginning to prep to build my models.

Spent tonight drilling through some metal bases that had metal where the holes should be. Which showed me that the pin vice I have is a bit crappy, the bit kept spinning in the grip.

ANyone let me know where in the UK I can get my hands on a decent one?

Also, noticed a slight casting error in a VCD, the cavity at the base of the dorsal fin had some metal in it blocking the nose section from slotting in, ground that out but got the grinding bit stuck in the collet of my Dremel, I'll pry it out later I'm sure.

Also noticed another moulding line on the bottom hull on the VCD, but it only gets noticed when you compare it to the other side. If both sides were the same it'd look deliberate. As it is I doubt it's worth bothering over, it'll be less obvious once it's painted, plus it'll help tell them apart on the gaming table.

I got my pin vice from Hobbycraft, which have a chain of stores. There's one in Swindon and one in Bristol. http://www.hobbycraft.co.uk/

LBH it took me forever to get my VCD to fit together right and without a Dremel tool you'll be hard pressed to get it right. It was one of the worst castings I had seen.

I agree, I had to dremel/file/fingernail scrape that thing. And I thought the brain bug was a b*tch.

Thanks for the pointer Greg, went there today but the onl ones they had seemed to be the same as the one I got from GW. Did get a 2" table vice though which will come in handy.

Mine seem to fit together wuite well, just that one problem.

With the pin vice, make sure you use a tight chuck. Don't fir your drill bit into a loose chuck and assume the pin vice will tighten it up. Also clockwise/anti-clockwise motion is good when starting to drill.

Don't put your minis in the vice. The metal is soft enough that it will squash them.

I'm going to fit cushioning material of some sort to the jaws to prevent that Greg, I'm thinking of some kind of rubber, balsa wood or thick flooring felt should do the job.

EDIT, and as for picking a tight chuck, that's what got one of my grinding bits stuck in the collet of my rotary tool thingy. I'll get it out yet though.

Yes its a shame the main body is in 2 diferent sizes but hey thats what they invented a Dremel multi with lots of bits with it. ( or in my case a dremel with the bits from Aldi's which were a good buy)

Its also why GW sell so much green stuff.

When the acta ships stop being sold GW's greenstuff sales will probably plummet.

@LBH How are you planning to paint your armada. One whole fleet at a time, or do something like 5pt raid at atime from each fleet.

One of a hull to see what I want to do with it, then probably mass do each hull type.

Probably WS first.

It's the fighters that worry me.
