Oops, which came first, Mongoose Legend or the other one?
Greetings. I was peripherally involved in The Other Legend RPG (I helped proofread) and I was able to talk with the main creators some.
It is my understanding that Rule of Cool's Legend existed, and was called Legend, as far back as late 2010 (though they weren't calling themselves Rule of Cool at that point). It was available in alpha/beta form for some time under that name, and only officially released last Friday.
I think that Rule of Cool has been in touch with Mongoose about the naming issue, though I'm fuzzier on what has been said by whom.
I will see if I can get in touch with someone more official to come and give a more complete story.

Did somebody call for an official word?
Rule of Cool Games has been operating under the Legend name for some time. We only got wind of Mongoose's rebranding this month, and after a lot of debate, we ultimately realized that for a charitable project, a rebrand would be more costly and damaging than simple name conflict would be.
The two systems are quite distinct, and our site (www.ruleofcool.com) won't be confused for Mongoose Publishing's page anytime in the near future, nor would we want it to be.
We have already reached out to Mongoose to let them know, and we've not gotten any complaints. In the meantime, we continue to raise funds for a good cause - in fact, yesterday alone we raised over $1200 USD for Child's Play.
Our position is that while the name conflict may be unfortunate, it hasn't proven particularly damaging to either party, so it's ultimately not a concern.
